Yes, the ending is contrived and silly, but the movie was intense the whole way through.

One of the best movies of the year. Great pacing, good acting, good story. Affleck killed it in the directors chair as well. It has a good chance to win Best Picture, and it would be well deserved.

I turned it off after 10 minutes. So, unless it make a fantastic comeback....I didn't like the first ten minutes enough to take a chance on the rest of the movie.

Ben Affleck needs to hang it up.....

I thought it was good but I really don't see how it warrants "best picture" and whatever else it was nominated for. There was nothing that stood out about it IMO.

I wouldn't say anything was bad either, so maybe that alone warrants the oscar nominees.

One of the ten best films of the year but will probably go down as one of the weaker Best Picture winners in Oscar history. It has absolutely zero character development and the plot is pretty conventional. But RollTide1987, how could it be a conventional plot when it's based on a true story? Just take a look at the final act of the movie. It strays away from what happened in reality in a big way by throwing hostage movie cliche after hostage movie cliche at the audience. So many last minute saves and so many conveniences were thrown into the mix just to make the story more suspenseful than it really was.

In the end, while it's a solid film and among the best of the year, this movie has as much business winning Best Picture as The Dark Knight Rises does. While a solid film, Argo just has nothing of substance to add. The acting is pretty standard, the script is pretty standard, and the suspense is pretty standard.

I still can't believe this film is going to win it all this year even though you have other, far superior films such as Zero Dark Thirty and Silver Linings Playbook in the mix.

You only saw 10 minutes of it, and you think Affleck should hang it up. You'd be better off admitting to trolling.

Ben Affleck and Keanu Reeves are a photo finish.

So, you are saying that there is more to the movie than a bunch of Iranians running around wanting to burn shite and kill Americans?

Agree with everything you said about the final act. Still suspenseful but definitely added to boost the story. Still an overall good movie though.

How old are those movies? 2003, 2001, 1998, and 2004? Almost a decade old? And all of them came before his directorial debut, which is what people are praising him for in the first place?

Yeah, you can hate on Affleck all you want. It really makes no difference to me, but you are selling a talented guy short and, more importantly, selling yourself short because you will never see the films he's directed despite their greatness.

Fair Enough...as an actor, I am not a fan. I was not burning his Directing.

Ben Affleck is not THAT bad of an actor. Most of his troubles in the late-90s and early-00s had to do with the movies he chose to appear in. He was good in Shakespeare in Love as well as Good Will Hunting. He also was pretty good in The Town and Argo.

Affleck's woes had everything to do with script selection.

I never cared for him until The Town, but I really liked it and really liked Argo as well

I may give Argo another shot. I just couldn't get through the first act involving the Embassy getting stormed. Maybe due to my dislike of that time in US History. Reminded me too much of our Middle East woes and how they have not been solved 30+ years later.

I fully agree that his script selections were pretty wretched. A man's got to eat though...
