I think that, deep inside, a part of me is still running around the room screaming after the Warren Morris HR. Alex Cora eating the infield dirt as Warren made the circuit was pretty sweet, too.
That being said, I wouldn't consider it a horseshoe. That would be the Florida fake FG bounce.

Final weekend of 2007 season:
You do realize that there was only one upset that weekend that affected LSU, right? Pitt beating West Virginia in a huge rivalry game. That's the amazing, unbelievable luckiest break in college football history.

Mizzou was #1 and they lost to Oklahoma. Granted, many people didn't consider it an upset, but #1 went down.

What else?
2000 Bama game where the refs go out of their way to look at the screen in the stadium. To figure out a call.

5. Auburn 2005: LSU wins after Auburn misses 5 field goals
Didn't LSU's kicker miss just as many field goals that game?
Never understood why LSU was lucky in this game, when their kicker tried to give the game away just as much as Auburns kicker.
I was at that game, about 4 rows up on the Auburn sideline, and I give credit to some LSU fan that devoted the entire game to harassing Auburns kicker.

It was a very windy night and most of those kicks were not gimmies.
Also, LSU dropped two touchdown passes. I don't think we missed too many FGs.

Yep. 5 kicks. That guy was supposed to he the Groza award winner and the ghosts of Death Valley got to him.
the crowd got louder with every missed kick. it was crazy

and i long pass to the endzone has a much lower probability of working than trying for a short field goal.
it wasn't a short FG....it would've been a 40 yard from the hash marks with a struggling kicker

I can't believe 05 Arizona St hasn't been mentioned yet. That wasn't a catch.

Yep..
Not to be a hater but we could just list about half of Les' wins for this thread.

I wouldn't either. The Tigers doggedly kept it close enough against a great Miami team so that one swing of the bat could win it. Even the Miami players looking back for the 15th anniversary of the game commented on what a good job we did to keep it within reach.

OP, first and foremost, thanks, this is IMO an AWESOME thread..most others have all games I can think of, but a few other thoughts, but none as strong case as a top 5 top time
Saint Nick had hsi share, LSU Ole Miss 2002 (14-13),LSU UK 29-25 2001, LSU Tn and MSU 2000
Earthquake game- sorry but we were outplayed until the last drive and had at least two obvious holding penalties not called twice on 3rd down plays in final drive, having said this, the guts the last drive was awesome
Auburn 1995- 12-6 Bring back magic game, AU QB heard whistle in end zone (I did too, was in student sec) and stopped playing-getting sacked in end zone leading to 9 of our 12 points...
Vandy LSU hoops in 1989, CJ hit LONG jumper at buzzer and all Vandy had to do was foul us on inbounds play as they were under limit
LSU,UNLV and GTown in 1989-90, last second shots in unreal plays
Bluegrass Miracle- if officials ever saw Jack Hunt run onto field to catch that pass, we would have lost...

How was TN 2000 lucky. We were beating the shite out of them and they came back to tie at the end of regulation and then we had a winning field goal blocked as time expired. TN was quite lucky to get back in the game

bullshite. That only led to 2 of our points. We already had 10 when that happened.

He hit a jumper from the corner. Hardly "LONG" by his standards. We screened for him on the inbounds play and he shot it immediately. Vandy didn't really get the chance to foul.

Unreal? Blanton puts in a 4-footer off the offensive rebound to beat Georgetown, and that's "unreal"? He hits a 20-footer from the corner to beat UNLV and that's "unreal"?

LSU Tn and MSU 2000
Two close games in which we outplayed the opponent and won in OT. How's that a "golden horseshoe"?
quote:
LSU UK 29-25 2001
So, just any close game is luck, then? Yes, we scored with a few seconds to go to win the game. So what?
quote:
LSU Ole Miss 2002 (14-13)
Another close game. Must be luck.
quote:
Earthquake game- sorry but we were outplayed until the last drive
Yes, but the defense kept us within one score.
quote:
at least two obvious holding penalties not called twice on 3rd down plays in final drive
As opposed to the holding penalties that are not called on 99% of plays in football? Any team could almost always make this argument.
Not a single one of your examples, other than the Bluegrass Miracle, was anything out of the ordinary from a luck standpoint.

No. If anything that was a gift to an Oklahoma team that lost by 40 in their CCG

They had just been hammered by OU a couple of weeks earlier in the regular season. Everybody knew OU was going to win this game. This was in no way lucky or surprising, nor was it an upset.

I gotta put Warren Morris in there!
