Kudos to LA. I wish AL would extend state waters and follow suit.

We need to tell the feds to shove it in more ways than red snapper. Thanks for the post!

Texas has NEVER been in compliance. They do WTF they want..........which I kinda like.......

The Snapper are so thick, the creel limits could really even be increased more than they did and even the size limits could be raised. We typically do not keep anything under 20-22" anyway.

Good article. The snapper issue pushes Joe Macaluso's buttons hard. He gets so fricking fired up. i love it.

Joe and I have known each other for many years from the Rodeo Weigh-ins. He is very passionate on the subject and a voice of the common fisherman!!!

I love how one of his sources in the article is his son Chris (great guy by the way - does he still do his fishing show on 104.5?). Louisiana is such an interconnected web.

realistically, how many places along our coast is it really possible to catch red snapper within this 3 league line? i know around venice and some of the area between venice and grand isle its possible. most of my snapper trips are from launches west of vermillion bay therefore LONG boat rides.

Yeah anything west of Fourchon won't be affected by this basically. When the river gets really low, people catch snapper on the jetties at the mouth of SW pass.

Yeah you right. Its about 10.5 nautical miles out. Mostly good for East side of the state. Def can't catch snapper 10 miles out of Cameron.

But the good thing is it gets us on par with what the other coastal states are doing and makes a big statement to the Feds. LDWF and CCA and several others have been working very hard on this.

The local Wildlife & Fisheries guys will NOT enforce the catches beyond the 10 mile line. Not sure if I have ever seen a Federal Game Warden offshore.......has anybody else?

Early in the season we catch Red Snapper at the 7 mile rigs while fishing for Mangrove Snapper. As Summer gets cranking, they move to deeper water. 80-100' deep range will put you on Snapper during the Summer...........15 miles or so...........
