I like Les Miles. I'm just explaining why what you said was beyond an oversimplification and the reasoning actually works against you. So you beat the shite out of that straw man. Nothing I said, could be construed as hating Les Miles.

ETA: BTW, the last time LSU won a National Title, they had the ninth best offense in the country. It can be done.

The point is, so many of you entitled fans have taken all the fun out of football. A win is not fun anymore unless we blow the other team out or it's over Bama.

Worth saying again. This sums up what the OP is saying.

I still have alot of fun going to and watching LSU games. I guess what others say or experience about LSU football doesn't affect me as much as it used to.

Even with parity, if LSU had an average offense, most games would be decided well before needing, say a 13 men on the field penalty to produce a win.

UTk....LSU
1st Downs 12 20
Total Yards 217 434
Passing 121 215
Rushing 96 219
Penalties 3-10 9-54
3rd Down Conversions 7-15 7-16
4th Down Conversions 0-2 1-1
Turnovers 0 4

LSU should never have been in the position to barely overcome 4 TOs, but I'd say it took a better than "average" offense to do it.
2010 surely wasn't one of the best Os either, but congealed toward the end, getting the W vs gumps and finishing big on aTm.

Football is king in Louisiana. Baseball is second. Nobody cares about basketball unless they are winning.

Agreed, any and every win is just as awesome as the last.

It's great to be an LSU Tiger!

The real wonder is that if football went 14-0 next year, all on last second field goals, half this board would be upset.

Yep. They are like my aunt that constantly complains about Miles. I asked her (she's a baseball fan), "If you ran a Major League team, and you had a guy who just could not hit a curve ball to save his life, but batted .400 for 70 home runs every year, would you cut him?"

"Probably!"

People get an idea into their minds that you have to do something the "right" way or it's a failure. They lose the ability to respect results. No team in the SEC is going to go undefeated and not win the National Championship. So winning, in any way, is essentially a guarantee of success. Complaining about ugly wins is like complaining about ugly money: no matter what it looks like, if you're smart you'll be happy to have it.

Meh, I don't really agree with the OP's sentiments. The yay, let's just be happy to win at all kind of crap is not going to get you championships

You're a fan, idiot. You being happy or pissed for a close win has no effect on winning championships. You don't matter at all, let the coaches worry about that. If you like LSU, be happy when they win.

This board would have melted down, the internet would have blown up, Leslie's kids would have been kidnapped, Javi Sanchez would have been blamed, and people would have rioted in the streets. The apocalypse of the program would have been predicted, with visions of 4-8 seasons for the rest of eternity. NO body would have been excited to pull out such a win.
I never see these crazy arse predictions except in threads like these.

I wish the Rant would behave more like the jubilant basketball fans than the spoiled football fans when we WIN football games.
All we need to do is have a crappy decade of football except for a couple of years and two poor coaching tenures and we will be there. Won't that be lovely to live through again. I prefer our spoiled fanbase.

ETA: After re reading, I think I mis-understood. I think there is a fine line between bitching about winning too close to an inferior team, and pointing out obvious flaws that need work and will be an issue against a stronger opponent.

The problem is too some people that will always be bitching, and some others just aren't happy unless there is something to bitch about. So with some there never can be a middle ground.

Ironically, in the Mizzou basketball thread I just pointed out that our rebounding disadvantage still worries me a lot. Is that just bithcing? Or is that pointing out the obvious? Because I was told that I just had to find something to bitch about. Sounds like a football thread to me.

And IMO, I think if we were a 4-4 football team and beat a 3-5 MSU team by a FG, everyone would be happy with the win.

Yeah and I agree it pretty much is apples and oranges. As expected, a number of posters took the comparison waaaaay too literally and seriously.

Perhaps, but let LSU (or any other state school) have several tournament/Final Four season and most folks, except the die hards, will quickly forget about college baseball which, on a national level, is a relatively minor collegiate sport. College basketball >>>>>>>>> college baseball in national interest and $$$.
