I don't really hate anybody. Hipsters are just lost little souls.

They look at me and think what could have been.

I would separate the two, though some can share certain traits...

No. They're worse. San Francisco has a severe gutter punk problem. They are more aggressive, dirtier and sometimes violent. Really unpleasant to be around that. You see a few patches of them in the FQ sometimes playing "music," chilling with their mangy dogs and harassing tourists for handouts.

Who knows what she meant. She's younger (25 I think?) and really into the indie music scene. I think she equates living near "artists," poor people and minorities with surrounding yourself with "culture" while people who live Uptown/Garden District/WHD are inherently boring and vanilla.

Right

Which is ridiculous of course

Being poor isn't a prerequisite for being cultured or even gifted in the arts.

I've been to R bar more times than I can count and never gotten that feeling.

Same here, but that applies to almost every bar in NOLA for me... I tend to think the person in the polo (as one example) is more self conscience than other people are actually giving a shite of what they have on...

trust me, self-consciousness is not the issue here. You're talking to someone who spent this past Saturday swimming at the Country Club in the bywater. I've just had a few anomalous experiences at R Bar

I agree with that. And I've experienced that plenty of places. It's mostly these younger hipster fricks, usually people not from New Orleans originally, who get pissed off by squares "being in the know" as far as their hip hangouts are concerned.

That's about right. What are you doing at this Hi-Ho lounge show with a Brooks Bros polo on????

I haven't been to Hi Ho since 01-03. Did hipsters even exist then?

I want to say the hipster scene came on a couple of years later. 2005-ish.
