Is it safe to run a 14' flatboat on the MS river? 25HP merc on the back.

ETA: i guess by 'safe' i mean will i get swamped and sunk by the passing barges/ships

Depends on where at on the Mississippi river. UP north you can step over the Mississippis River...

where on the river? If you say Venice or below, I'd say no.

yes, it's safe.

just be careful when the barges come down the river. get to the bank and wait out the wake.

I take my 12ft kayak out on the river near there. I dont wild out in the middle, but I go out.

on days like this. its not trouble at all

We were fishing in the river one day near the MS, LA, AR border and along comes this 12' flat with 5 people in it 2 are kids. Scared the shite out of me just watching em.

Fav story of my dads. 12' boat. 9.9. Two men and a deer. Crossed the river at Natchez.......at night.

pardon my ignorance, but what do you catch on the river near BR? seems like it would be pretty hard to catch bass, but i really have no idea. what about down near venice?

catching bass on the river sounds extremely hard to me. i figured it would just be cats and maybe gar or something.

Finding them in the river is extremely hard. Have heard of people catching schools 2-3 lbs in hoop nets. Backwater during floods will fill up in some spots and flood water makes it easier to access bar pits on private property for those wiling to go that route
