I dont blame him on looking to make some changes. But I think he overreacted a bit. Simply moving out of California would save an incredible tax burden. I dont understand why he would consider semi-retirement.
I know California is home but you can move back when your playing days are over....

Seriously, so many PGA guys live in Florida or at least "domicile" there for tax purposes. Keep a house in CA and your "home" in FL.

While I don't necessary agree with him, he shouldn't have apologized.

Why would any golfer live anywhere other than Texas or Florida?

The hell it wouldn't
You get slaughtered in CA with taxes

He shouldn't apologize for speaking the truth. If I made that kind of money in a year youd bet your arse I'd live in a place with the least amount of tax burdens.

One of his major sponsors is KPMG, an accounting firm. There's no way in the world he's paying more than 17%.

I think some people griped about how he complained. It had a "poor me" attitude.
His CPA must be dumb.
Keep your personal business to yourself.

I don't see why he needed to apologize. I can imagine that taxes in California, when combined with federal, is just a ludicrous amount of money going to the government.

You are just stupid.

California will tax him at 13.3% for 2013. Is it foolish to think about reducing, or eliminating, $8 million in incoome taxes? And that doesn't include sales taxes, which were also increased in California.

I just saw on CNBC that he is probably paying closer to 50% after deductions, lower than the 65% he complained about.
But I agree I bet he is paying much less than 50%.

How so? His earnings are taxed by the state for which he earns them in...

I stand by my statement. You show me someone in the 39% tax bracket actually paying 39% and I'll ban myself.

Creditors can't take your house in FL because of the homestead exemption. Worldcom's Scott Sullivan was building a $40 million house on the water in Boca to insulate his money from creditors when he got snapped off by the Feds.

Good for him. Why should he apologize for that?
