Was this movie scary and worth seeing? Without giving away the movie, what is it about?

I don't know, but I've been told that there are these things called "reviews" and you can find them in newspapers, magazines and, more significantly, on the so called "internet".

Good to see you're a dick on more than one board. Consistency is important.

took my stepson and his friends to see it, i thought it was pretty terrible and so did they. But they wanted to see this particular movie because there was nothing but 14 year old girls in there.

Well frick. I guess we should get rid of the Movie TV board. We can't ask for recommendations now. If we want to discuss movies there are alternative methods for that too. It was fun while it lasted everyone.

Rule #1 in cinema:

90% of films first released in Jan and Feb
are total garbage. 100% of horror movies first released in Jan and Feb are total garbage.

most horror movies have below a 20 on rotten tomatoes and this one has a 65% so thats a good sign. a lot of the reviews said it really is a well done scary ghost story so it sounds promising

Okay, okay. "Mama" is produced by Guillermo del Toro, who directed "Pan's Labrynth", "Devil's Backbone", "Hellboy", etc. His production company has put out several well made horror movies. It probably means that "Mama" has a chance of at least being entertaining.

"Mama" is about a couple who adopt two young orphaned girls who had been living on their own in the woods for years. Hmmmm . . . but do they come alone????????

It got decent reviews in the NY Times this past Friday and elsewhere. Probably not a great horror movie, but I think would be entertaining enough to drop a couple of bucks on. I'll probably go see it.

There. Better?

i had a blast seeing it. there were alot of kids and families in the theater, and they were all going apeshit. it was alot of fun.

that said, if i watched this by myself on my computer or something, dont know how much i would have liked it.

there were some real interesting scenes, some pretty inventive gags, as far as mainstream american horror goes. the story isnt particularly unique, but the acting and script are fine, and one of the little girls is pretty impressive as a feral kid.

in all, the movie was well designed and executed, but there was still some pretty dumb shite afoot. Id say i liked this slightly more than sinister, which is pretty similar in that they are above-average pg13 horror movies.

That's because most horror movies are rip offs of older ones. The same horror elements are played out over and over again tirelessly, it seems.
