Randle was the best in the state when he came out

That was actually one of the nicer pieces of journalism on here, VT.

Posters that bash on our coaching staff for not locking up the state use recruiting service rankings, so I felt I could use recruiting service rankings to back up my opinion.

While I pretty much agree with the point you're trying to make, the basis on which you're proving it with is kind of flawed. Georgia is more populated than Alabama and Louisiana combined; and while they don't quite produce the per capital talent that comes out of Louisiana or Alabama, they still pump out a ton of talent every year. With that said, the in state talent pool is simply too vast for Georgia to target all of the top prospects the same way, for instance, LSU can.
Also, with out the possibility of even being able to give scholarships to every player that is deserving, UGA has had no way of shutting down out of state schools from recruiting the state extremely hard. Ga Tech may be the only other D1 program in the state, Georgia has to recruit against Auburn, Alabama, UF, Tennessee, FSU, Clemson, and USCe enough to make it feel as though there's a lot more.
I don't feel like there's any recruiting landscape in country that is like LSU's. Despite having 4 other 1A schools in Louisiana, the Tigers don't have any in state competition for top prospects. The closest major out of state school is not within 150 miles of the state line, which also makes LSU's situation so unique.

Here is a piece Rivals did on the success rate of signing five stars by state in 2012. free Rivals article
Posted here in august of 2012 (only four people read & commented )
quote:
My analysis of their analysis (in 2012):
When you look at the numbers LSU does better than any other "school" on the list. Some "states" that have multiple schools keep a higher percentage but no one school does.
For all of the people that think LSU loses too many in-state players here's the reality of how LSU stands with other schools as far as who keeps their home state players.
Wish they had done it with FOUR & five stars since so many Louisiana four stars are undervalued.
Forget the percentage of states that keep their players in the chart on the right and focus on the numbers in the article. The breakdown in the article shows what school the kids chose. The numbers in the article pertain to 5 star recruits. The chart refers to Rivals 100 players. Both reflect LSU's dominance of keeping in-state kids.
Those numbers show us LSU and Bama both got 75% of their respective in-state players. Michigan got 71%. No other school got near these percentages.
The number by school:
LOUISIANA: LSU 75.0 percent (9 of 12): Went to LSU (9): 2004: St. Martinville WR Early Doucet (LSU). 2005: Reserve East St. John QB Ryan Perrilloux (LSU). 2006: Elton DT Al Woods (LSU). 2007: Baton Rouge Southern Lab ATH Chad Jones (LSU). 2009: Bastrop WR Rueben Randle (LSU), Mansfield DT Chris Davenport (LSU). 2011: Baton Rouge Redemptorist OT La'El Collins (LSU), New Orleans O. Perry Walker DT Anthony Johnson (LSU), Lutcher WR Jarvis Landry (LSU).
Left (3): 2007: River Ridge John Curtis RB Joe McKnight (USC). 2009: Lake Charles Barbe CB Janzen Jackson (Tennessee). 2012: Geismar Dutchtown S Landon Collins (Alabama).
ALABAMA: Bama 75 percent (9 of 12): Went to Bama (9): 2006: Birmingham Huffman OT Andre Smith (Alabama). 2008: Foley WR Julio Jones (Alabama), Prichard Vigor ATH Burton Scott (Alabama), Mountain Brook OT Tyler Love (Alabama). 2009: Foley OT D.J. Fluker (Alabama), Gadsden City CB Dre Kirkpatrick (Alabama), Andalusia LB Nico Johnson (Alabama). 2010: Millbrook Stanhope Elmore CB Dre Milliner (Alabama). 2012: Daphne RB T.J. Yeldon (Alabama).
Stayed in state but didn't go to Bama (1): 2002: Selma WR Ben Obomanu (Auburn).
Left (2): 2003: Hoover WR Chad Jackson (Florida). 2012: Hueytown QB Jameis Winston (Florida State).
Spare me the "We're the only big school in the state" speech. Yes, we are but what does that have to do with the price of Community in NOLA? It doesn't matter. For whatever reason, no one keeps a higher percentage of "their" guys than LSU.

Very nice work. I'll note that tOSU numbers were skewed for a year when Tatgate was going down.
There are also Catholic kids that are going to be lost to Notre Dame. LSU doesn't have a situation like that to deal with in Louisiana. I'm just throwing it out there because it is a somewhat unique situation since no other state in the region produces the amount of DI talent that Ohio does.

Bull shite. The pope of college football is kicking the shite out of LSU right now. Damn Catholics and their influence.

A few years back, I did something similar with Alabama and Auburn, and I think Combined their rates were a bit higher than LSU's.
Yeah but Alabama doesn't produce that much talent to begin with. It's the main reason why Saban is always casting his lures far and wide. LSU has been just about able to rack up their skill positions the past few years just on talent in Louisiana.
Nobody really digs into Alabama too much except for may 3 or 4 recruits a year.

Missouri?

Missouri, Nebraska etc don't have top end talent. Infact, most of the top talent from those stats leave to go to Oklahoma/Arkansas/Texas.

Can we do an Alabama analysis?
re: LSU's success at recruiting Louisiana | States of Georgia and Ohio addedPosted by VermilionTiger on 9/4/13 at 1:17 pm to Cmlsu5618
I can do that later on for you, but it's kind of pointless considering they have 2 instate dominant schools.
re: LSU's success at recruiting Louisiana | States of Georgia and Ohio addedPosted by Cmlsu5618 on 9/4/13 at 1:21 pm to VermilionTiger
It would still be interesting to see how many stay within the state. If Saban's going to come in here and take ours, lets hit him where it hurts back.
re: LSU's success at recruiting Louisiana | States of Georgia and Ohio addedPosted by VermilionTiger on 9/4/13 at 1:22 pm to Cmlsu5618
We focus on Texas, Florida, Miss, and the Carolina's. Why should we shift our focus just because Saban gets 1 and sometimes 2 out of LA a year?

I get your post and its a good one. And while you are technically correct, you leave out the fact that we lose the big recruit to Bama, our nemesis, while they get #1 classes and just top it off. They are taking away from us but its helping them. If Arky or someone like that got him it would be no big deal, but give these big recruits to Bama and they hurt us big time. If we can't beat them, we get no seccg and no nc.

We've been losing skill position players to Alabama. We've been making up for it with getting players from Texas and Florida.
Since 2008, if I were to list every recruit we lost to Alabama, and replaced them with a top recruit from Texas or Florida..do you think LSU had a decent swap in talent?
