What a bunch of ducking communists.

Later this week, Obama will formally announce his proposals to reduce gun violence, which are expected to include renewal of the assault weapons ban, universal background checks and prohibition of high-capacity magazine clips.

Let me see if I got this right. A State can override Federal Law on marijuana sales which is not Constutionally protected. However, a State can't override Federal Law on Firearms sales which is Constutionally protected?
There is no policeman in Baton Rouge that will enforce that. It's a joke.

I'll repeat my first thought when I read that thread, "What do you expect the NRA to say?" I hope they're right, but they are a biased source.

Texas Congressman Threatens Impeachment Filing if Obama Uses Executive Order for Gun Control
quote:
Texas Republican Rep. Steve Stockman said on Monday that impeachment filings wouldn’t be out of the question if President Obama was to try and institute new gun control policies through executive order, which can bypass Congress to an extent.
“I will seek to thwart this action by any means necessary, including but not limited to eliminating funding for implementation, defunding the White House, and even filing articles of impeachment,” Stockman said in a statement.

That link says afull ban is unlikely.

Honestly, possibly broadening the defintion of someone who is mentally unstable is the most frightening to me. I work in mental health. They pass that restriction first and then gradually expand what that definition is. Imagine if anyone who has ever been prescribed an antidepressant, or adderall or vyvanse, is ruled mentally unstable by their definition. How many people do you know that would be in that category? I know I know dozens, and they are all responsible gun owners. I'm no tin-foil-hat-wearer, conspiracy junkie, but this seems pretty feasible for this administration IMO.

Should I buy land in Texas now in case they file for secession?

I expect them to go even further than that. It will eventually just be anyone who disagrees with them is mentally unstable.

You're a couple of steps ahead of me. I honestly don't think it will go that far.

They could start convicting people with illegal weapons and not letting them off so easy. Then start cracking down on the gun "black" market (instead of participating in it).

If they don't let them have guns they shouldn't let them drive either. Cars are far more dangerous.

Agree. The NRA said they didn't think a ban would make it through Congress. That's all. If I recall correctly, a lot of Democrats lost their jobs after the 1995-2005 ban which may or may not have given the Republicans a majority in Congress. Democrats will never give up efforts to ban armed citizenry. It's as reflexive to them as Republican"s efforts to ban abortion.
