I just stumbled across This old thread on Bayou Shooter. Some of my best summers growing up were spent riding 3 (yeah I'm old) and 4 wheelers on the creek.

I was looking around for property and this thread came up. Anyone know if they are arresting people in the creek? Of course, if I bought property, I could enter and exit on my own property so I'm wondering about being harassed while in the creek.

The land owners over there are quick to call the law. I know a bunch of people who have gotten citations. I'd avoid the arseholes and hassle.

You'll get a misdemeanor citation for trespassing under the parish ordinance if a property owner reports you.

Could you yak or canoe it?

Guess it would depend on where you could put in.

I've never heard any complaints about yakers just don't step foot on dry land.

Use to be a spot to put in in Norwood. We'd always ride 4wheelers from Jackson to there. Think its been fenced off now.

Thompson creek hasn't been as big of an issue recently as the forks from it and Bayou Sara. Middle fork use to have a low water bridge that crossed it and people would put bikes in there but they have one land owner that is very vigilant and has the sheriff dept on speed dial.

The ordinance was written by one of two judges that would hear the case so chances of winning in court are slim.

Wrote a group of 17 riders one summer and one of the fellas tried to defend himself in court. When he read the ordinance the judge stopped him and pretty much told him "I know what it says, I wrote it and I doubt you'll convince me I'm wrong and you weren't in violation of it".

I hope he went to the COA.

Its a small fine iirc.

Being on the creeks use to not be a problem. You knew what land owners didn't like it and just made sure you didn't stop on their sandbar. Started getting more and more campers building camp fires on peoples property and of course with the popularity of meth you had people cooking on peoples land. Land owner go out to his sandbar with his family and find a tent full of meth heads skinny dipping and it ruffles some feathers

I'm pretty sure you're okay as long as you stay on the water.

I used to canoe it from Jackson to the Hwy 61 bridge. Never had any trouble. Fishing was better on the Comite though.

Exactly. I have a camp and property on a small river. Seeing people pulling their boat up on a sandbar to rest from a long fishing trip, let kids skip rocks, walking around on the sandbar looking at critter tracks, stopping to take a dump, or anything like that doesn't bother us. Meth heads in tents do. I had one a couple years ago threaten to call the sheriff if I didn't leave him and his girlfriend alone. I called the sheriff for him. Didn't really work out like he figured. I just know one day I'm going to show up and they have burned my camp down during the week while I was gone.

We used to lease property along Thompson Creek. I've never been run off and I've put my truck into the creek and run for miles.
