The good ole days, when aging a deer meant letting it hang a couple days before cutting and wrapping it.

That's what I want is an oldstyle deer camp. We hunt here locally now so everyone just goes home. We do have a duck camp, but for some reason it's just not the same. Gonna put a walk in freezer in too to hand and age the deer like you 'spose to.

I miss the check stations. We had a old grocery store/restaurant we'd go to and check our deer and brag/check out others'. Then get a good home cooked breakfast and coffee.

we'd have em hangin in the screen porch, sometimes for almost a week... The meat would seal off on top turning almost black, age and seem to turn more nice and grainy.. We pretty much did that when it turned warm as well. Main thing was to keep it dry and not allow the blow flies on it..

I would give anything to go back ten years to our place in Mississippi . Nothing like sneaking beers for myself and friends .Getting drunk and trying to hide it from all the dads and paw paws while hearing them tell stories . Nothing like it

God Bless you and your family. I wish I were with some of them that have gone before me. So that they could know me as an adult and know my son. It is a rare thing that you have.

Love hunting with my pops and brothers. We are going on a weekend duck hunt next week. Have been doing it for as long as I can remember. We all have different leases, but always make time for at least a hunt a year all together.

Bumping this thread after finally reading through it. Like many, my grandpa(w) taught me most of the basics when growing up. He's a little too old to care and my dad likes to fish on occasion but doesn't have a huge interest in hunting. He loves catching specks so we often bold over that but next year I plan on bringing him to the duck blind for the first time. Looking forward to introducing him to what I hope will become his new favorite pass time.

One thing I have noticed is the height they put their lock-ons at. If you climb a tree to get in an old one, you are gonna be 30ft minimum. I have been in a couple that were 50+ft. I guess they didn't have to worry about bow shots. My thing dad said one season when bow hunting was getting bigger was, "frick a bow. What kind of idiot wants to shoot a deer with an arrow? " I also enjoy the fact that they all went out there with regular old clothes. No fancy Under Armor scent blocker $500 camo needed, just a shirt and never-washed jeans
