re: LHSAA--Anybody heard any rumors about the LHSAA Executive Director's job?

. If either proposal passes, then the private schools can stay status quo for two years and get their ducks in a row for going in a different direction in 2015. This will also give the Legislature time to get involved and really muck things up.

kenny henderson will face incredible heat for allowing this issue to jeopardize the health of the LHSAA as a whole and for allowing a situation to fester to the point where Legislative auditors start poking around the finances and policies of the LHSAA.
I suspect Mr Henderson will take the fall for the way he has handled:
JC and ECA playing in 2A
The disastrous move to award NORLA state championship events they cant handle (basketball)
The Legislature getting involved in the affairs of the LHSAA
Allowing a potential split to rupture the LHSAA

The Legislature getting involved in the affairs of the LHSAA
brought on by Tommy Henry's cigar habit and the dumbass legislator from Lafayette. Henderson was powerless to stop it

This

it means too much to too many people at all 388 schools to allow it to be jeopardized like this. Kenny Henderson made a massive mistake as the caretaker of the LHSAA when he failed to express a strong opinion against a split and what and who was behind it.

re: LHSAA--Anybody heard any rumors about the LHSAA Executive Director's job?

quote:

What I am hearing is a split is coming for football only. The private schools will not leave the LHSAA because they will be leaving all their districts over 1 sport. All their other sports can still compete for their usual state titles. The football teams districts will remain in place for regular season play. Also not every select school is a private school. Some select non- private schools are not breaking from the LHSAA. The select schools don't like the separate football playoffs but there isn't much they can do. They make up only 30% of the LHSAA. If 20-25% of the schools want to completely leave the LHSAA over separate playoffs in 1 sport then let them go. My guess is they will stay.

Public Schools have the vote! This is a fact...

We are going to see the private schools try and kill the legislation with amendments to force a "tabling" of the issue at 9:00 am.

Here are some statistics on why the whole split should happen according to public schools.

A. Boys: Over the past 10 years private school outside of football have won around 60% of the state titles in all sports

B. Girls: Over the past 10 years 67% of all state championships have gone to private schools

Note: I am very torn on the issue and am only trying to share what's going on behind closed doors

Also, there are around 78 private schools that play football in Louisiana. I think if the private schools lose this vote the LHSAA will be in real danger. The private schools would be expected to still play the public schools but there is some real venom in the air headed into Friday.

In my opinion if the split happen the private schools will look to form a new association over time.

was caused by 5a and 4a principals....

and NOW.... one of the proposals is a way for those 4a and 5a principals to have to deal with them again.... unfortunately 2 of the 5 ringleaders that caused this will stay with publics.

if you think that forcing eca and jc was meaningles... you really show you don't know the vibe outside NoLa.

the problems with the LHSAA go much deeper than just football kemosabe.

expect a lot of fireworks...I would be surprised if KH is still in charge this time tomorrow.

I'm plugged into the matrix this morning. I'll post all information I can as its relayed.

Again, the votes are there for a split. We are going to see the private schools amend it until they force a tabling. This is suppose to go down at 9:00 am.

This is completely short-sighted, IMO. I can't believe they would vote for this without knowing what schools will be affected and what the consequences will be.

That one sport is the only sport that matters as far as a decision making aspect is concerned. Not even basketball will hold a candle to the discussion. If these idiot public school coaches vote down 8 but vote in 18, I don't see how the private schools stay in the LHSAA. Furthermore, I bet if they leave the LHSAA (what would be left) would still allow the their teams to play the privates during the regular season because there will be such an uproar over lost money that they will allow it. The big question is, will the private schools play the publics? There aren't that many privates to go around, although potentially adding some LCSAA, MPHSAA, and TAPPS schools to the schedules might make it a bit more bearable, but not for the power schools.

There is actually several proposed items that have little foresight or research that will probably get voted in because the public schools are too lazy to look into the matters. I almost wish at this point the LHSAA would dissolve and the publics will be left with no organization. It would serve them proper.

And that is complete bull shite. They want to take the good without the bad. You can't have either/or.

I said before, if I were a select school and they voted to split, no more games against public schools. They aren't going to vote us out and then still try to take our money.

I would too, but at the same time some schools might now have a choice. How many schools in the Shreveport area would be willing to play Evangel if they no longer were forced to play district games? Calvary, then Evangel would probably have to play nothing but Texas and Arkansas teams, and that will be expensive. Catholic schools will still run away from Curtis, so Curtis will have to play MS and AL schools.

They want to split and figure it out later approach.

If they win this vote then I wouldn't play the public schools. They are saying, "hey we love your gate money but you can go frick yourselves at playoff time". I just think the situation becomes incredibly volatile once you split. The public schools are convincing themselves the private schools couldn't leave and form their own organization.

I laugh because they have the $$$

re: LHSAA--Anybody heard any rumors about the LHSAA Executive Director's job?

Damn, I had no idea they had settled

LINK

quote:

The Louisiana High School Athletic Association has settled its case with the Internal
Revenue Sevice that dates to
an audit that began in June 2007.

Michael Choate, who serves as a state-approved auditor for the LHSAA, told the LHSAA’s executive committee during a Wednesday report that its case with the IRS was settled and that the LHSAA has agreed to pay $102,772.

Also agreeing to a separate IRS settlement that will require him to pay the LHSAA $224,418 was former LHSAA Commissioner Tommy Henry.

Executive Director Kenny Henderson said the LHSAA had previously paid the IRS $12,000.

“Our attorney reported to us that an agreement was made,” Henderson said. “You definitely learn from every experience you go through.

“Many of the things they (the IRS) said for us to do we had already been doing. We started changing up our procedures after I came in.”

Henderson, who took over the LHSAA’s top job when Henry retired in October 2007, declined comment on Henry’s portion of the settlement, saying he knew only what was reported to him by the LHSAA’s tax attorney.

When contacted by phone, Henry deferred comment to his tax attorney, Monroe’s Richard Campbell, who confirmed the amount Choate listed for Henry’s payment was correct
and that Henry has until Oct. 2015 to pay the $224,418 to the LHSAA.

“There’s not much about this whole thing that’s right,” Campbell said. “In this case, a settlement was best. But as far as I’m concerned it’s wrong for Mr. Henry or for the LHSAA to have to pay anything.

“What he (Henry) did, he did with the approval of the LHSAA and its executive committee. He traveled all over the state conducting LHSAA business. When you travel, the IRS has some very specific things they look for. Records were kept, and receipts were turned in. Those records were kept, but they were not what the IRS wanted.”

The IRS questioned Henry’s travel expenses and use of an organization credit card during his travels around the state. Henry served as LHSAA commissioner from 1983-2007.

A 2010 legislative audit found Henry may have “fraudulently” spent thousands of LHSAA dollars and noted what it called questionable purchases such as $50,000 for cigars, golf equipment and clothes. The state audit also cited expense filings by Henry that appeared to be duplicates.

Campbell noted to the LHSAA he also had independent audits done during Henry’s tenure and that those audits never flagged any wrongdoing. He said the IRS requires an “accountable plan,” for expenses, which the LHSAA did not have during Henry’s tenure.

Campbell’s summary of the case states that, “This was entirely a technical civil tax matter, with no criminal or fraudulent allegations made by the IRS.”

State associations will be a thing of the past very soon either way, at least for private schools.

I was told by a prominent coach to go watch Hoop Dreams if I wanted to get an idea of what would happen with a public and a private association. I haven't done it yet though.
