The only black Brits I have ever seen are Jeffrey on Fresh Prince, the guy from Planet of the Apes, and Stringer Bell.

Every James Bond before Daniel Craig had dark hair. Did it distress you as much as this to see a blonde Bond? If not, why is skin color any more a part of the fictional character's identity than hair color?

We're not talking about a black guy playing an actual historical figure like Woodrow Wilson here.

I'd enjoy a obese black jewish woman with a Southern accent and diabetes as the next Bond.

When Ian Flemming described Bond's hair as a black comma that hung on his forehead, I don't think he was talking about a jerry curl or an afro.

Who cares what color any character is?

If you're one of the nitpickers that cares about such things & you can't see a guy playing a role because of a period (like Sherlock Holmes or Indiana Jones) of time, I guess that's understandable.

If you care what color Luke Skywalker is then your just a raciest. In a made up realm like Star Wars, a person's species type might make a difference but who the hell cares what color any fricking human is?

The next James Bond WILL be black. Book it. There have been rumors flying everywhere about Idris Elba becoming James Bond.

Again, so does the fair-haired Bond bother you as much as a potentially dark-skinned Bond?

I think you're more likely to see a South Asian Bond than a Black Bond; ultimately, the franchise is British at it's core, and South Asians are a more prominent part of the culture over the last 40-60 years than black Britons.

That said, if the direction of the franchise is decided by Americans, a black Bond would be much more likely.

It can happen and it isn't nearly the big deal people make it out to be.

It's not.

And it's why Idris said he doesn't want to be called the "Black James Bond."

And it's why it's sort of racist to say you wouldn't watch b/c of "continuity." Whatever B.S. prejudice b.s. excuse that is.

Every Bond actor moves with the times. 1960 Bond wouldn't be black but 2012 Bond would/could. Bond is just an agent...if you want someone stuck in the 1960's - watch Austin Powers.

More to the point of this thread, I don't think a black Bond is necessarily imminent for the sake of having a black Bond. I just think that there's a particular British actor right now who would be a great fit for the role in Idris Elba, who happens to be black. Race for a fictional character is as immaterial as hair color in my opinion.

Now if there happens to be a British actor of South Asian decent who comes along that fits the Bond role as well or better, that'd make sense. I just can't think of any.

ETA: I totally agree, Zamoro.

Read.

If the franchise's decisions are made by Britons, Bond is a South Asian long before he's black. If Bond becomes Americanized by the decision makers, he will go black first.
