Hadn't seen that.... Pretty funny... I dont know that catch shares and recreational fishing can peacefully coexist. Thats cause for alarm for sure. To another poster, the snapper population has climbed somewhat in my area of FL. You certainly dont hear stories about the red snapper eating the bottom out of your boat as they do in LA.

Ya'll just need some oil rigs. Creel limits should be set on regional habitat.

Fishing the LA coast spoils a person. It's a large part of the reason I dont fish all that often here in Florida. People like to say that West Florida/Tampa Bay are spectacular fisheries and in some respects they are(tarpon and snook). But when you've got to hit a few spots and really work to put 4 slot size specks in the boat(daily limit here) its hardly worth the effort.

I miss catching snook. Nothing like that here in LA. In the mid 50's we use to catch redfish by the hundreds on cane poles (4 of us) in the 10,000 island area (everglade city) until we were wore out. Then came the gill net. Then came the limits.

I've had this argument a few times since living in FL. What makes FL unique is that the separate fisheries offer different opportunities as you move down the panhandle, to the keys and onward up the Atlantic Coastline. If you had the luxury of moving freely about the State you could experience incredible fishing year round. Giant alligator trout in the early Spring in Tampa, Tarpon in Boca Grande during the early Summer, sight fishing the Cobia migration on the Atlantic side or billfishing within view of the Miami City skyline. All cool as hell and during those few weeks of prime time they are great. If you are locked into fishing any one area exclusively things are very hit or miss and the sheer numbers of fish heavily favors LA.

I went on a snook trip out of Venice FL. We fished around docks at night with live shrimp. That has to be one of the most fun fish to catch. We tore them up in the 3-6 lb range.

Is it true that when they do the fish counts, they don't count the fish around rigs and platforms?

I mainly fish inshore and rarely get checked by LDWF. How often does it occur offshore? Seems like it's much more water for those guys to cover, and pretty expensive at that.

You don't think the president's policies (through the commerce secretary's appointments) are meant play heavily against recreation fishermen? He sees this as another front to push his agenda against freedom minded individuals. The gun battle is another example.

I don't think that recreational fisheries regulation is even on the the POTUS's radar. The fact is he doesn't sign off on any of these regulations or recommendations. The State Governors have the nexus of power and every State included in the Gulf Coast is a Republican governed. I don't disagree that the rules seem to favor commercial fisherman, I do think blaming the POTUS for a Bush era policy kept alive by a largely Republican appointed committee seems like a bit of a stretch.. Don't blame the POTUS, blame your Governor... JMHO..

dude, you are paranoid. The Presnit doesn't give a frick about recreational fishermen, or what they catch. This is all done o/b/o commercial fishermen. They get to monopolize snapper fishery, until they frick that up too, like they do every other fishery. Then they'll move on to destroy the next resource.
