I Just Want to Make a Couple of Things Clear

1. LSU is in the SEC and is there to stay.
Both of Mr. Rabalais' articles in the Advocate were only meant to provide a 2-part series addressing the hypothetical arguments for both staying and leaving. However, because they came out a day apart, and the more taboo subject of leaving the SEC came out first, an uproar ensued among our fan base and throughout the other fan bases on this site.
That being said, the articles were unnecessary IMO, and have led the better majority of this board and the SEC rant to focus mainly on the first article, as to construe it as the voice of all LSU fans glorifying Alabama and whining about how life isn't fair for us.
LSU is a founding SEC member, and has too big of a following to abruptly leave its roots. Because of recent success, both internally at LSU and throughout the rest of the conference, an aura of greatness has been associated with the SEC, thus giving more credibility to the conference and allowing more room for error with regards to blemishes on our record. Essentially, the SEC has been given an "automatic bid" to the MNC with all its recent success. Not only has this helped establishing a brand of football that the rest of the country envies, but it has also helped in areas such as recruiting, in that star high school players from across the country strive to play in the best conference in the nation.
It would make no sense to leave the situation we are in.
2. "Dynasties" are cyclical in nature.
Those of you who consistently whine about Alabama, for a variety of reasons, while at the same time complain about how LSU is "second-fiddle," need to understand that success doesn't last forever.
It will be difficult for ANY coach to step and and replace Les Miles AND/OR Nick Saban. Because both coaches are nearing the age of retirement, the level of dominance sustained by both programs in the last few years will inevitably come to an end (though, not necessarily for a long period of time).
Exhibit A: Florida the few years after Spurrier.
Exhibit B: Alabama the few years after Bryant.
Point is, we can make all the excuses we want, the upper echelon of SEC teams will rotate soon enough, and our level of hate will rotate toward those teams that surface to the top.

Why do we have to be rational? We're just fans of an amateur football team on an anonymous Internet message board with nothing else to do. Nothing we say here matters.

If LSU had a real AD we wouldn't even begin to discuss this stuff.
He allowed the league to get away with the shitty 2013 scheduling as well as let them protect others teams in bowls this year which left LSU in a lesser bowl.

Link?
If this is what The Advocate meant to do, then they communicated this very, very poorly.
They should have done it the way USA Today does with the opposing viewpoints on opposite pages or opposite sides of the same page.
Regardless, Rabalais' article is complete garbage. If the Big 12 was so fricking awesome, then why did A&M leave? He wants to escape the shadow of Bama by moving into the shadow of Texas and league offices in Dallas? We would just replace A&M as the crybaby whiny bitches of the Big XII. Also Rabalais doesn't even consider writing his crybaby bitchfest of an article if LSU finished our final drive off with a touchdown instead of another field goal attempt after 3 straight runs that went nowhere. The REC isn't to blame for that loss. We had our shot and didn't finish them off. Spilled milk. In Rabalais' case, spilled mama's titty milk.

In my mind this has nothing to do with Alabama; it has to do with what is fair to all parties involved. There is no reason to continue the traditional opponent crap. Alabama does not get off easy by Tennessee who happens to be down right now. LSU and Florida are both in tough playing each other. Likewise for Georgia and Auburn. The problem lies with Ole Miss, Miss. State, Kentucky, and Vandy having "easier" traditional opponents. The jury is out on A&M and Missouri. Every team should play the teams in their division and two from the other division on a rotating basis. If Bama and Tenn and Georgia and Auburn want to maintain these games on a yearly basis then they simply will not count as SEC games when they are "out of the regular rotation." This seems quite easy to do and should be done. LSU should not leave the SEC.

I think you make a great and obvious argument and don't think we have to leave the SEC, but when I start hearing about roots, history, and tradition, I just want to throw my hands up in the air. The goal should be to create match ups and schedules that are relevant and equitable to the country as a whole. The rest of the country may envy the SEC, but this is because inequities have been created, and there is little transparency into how the conferences operate, especially the SEC. If in a given season you don't play all the teams in your conference then what is the point. The SEC has been great when being innovative, ie the Championship Game, but stupid with promoting or allowing ideas of traditional rivalries, and developing these ridiculous bowl relationships.

Should be the post of the year.

They were in the same paper that i read. The leaving article was on the cover of the sports page and the staying was pg 2-3 of the sports section.

Only a fool is compelled to state the obvious.
