What's the hardest Christmas present you've ever had to assemble for the kids?

For me, it was one of those redwood outdoor fort/swing sets/sliding board contraptions for the grandkids. Directions said 5 hour assembly time. Took me two days...

It was a swing set, with slide and a bunch of stuff added to it for me, as well... I had enough left over parts to build another one...

It outlived both the boys young age, amazing it stood til I pulled it down with the truck..

A friend and I, with 20.5 hours of assemble time, built this playhouse for this Christmas.

I give you, the Monterey:

Big arse trampoline on Christmas Eve night three years ago with Now FIL and ex-BIL. The three of us were drink and only had flashlights to work with. FIL was drunk standing in the center of the mat while I was trying to attach the mat to the frame. Epic clusterfrick. We finished it about 5 am and kids were up at 6:30.

A sheet metal refrigerator for a playhouse..... It wasn't technically difficult, but it had about #200 tiny sheet metal screws that were hard to manipulate. Of course, I was also putting toys for the other kds, as well.

I've got two very good suggestions for the moms and dads w/ young children:
1. Pay the extra $10 for Toy's R Us (or whoever) to put together the toy for you ahead of time. Believe me, the $10 is well worth it as your Christmas Eve will be much more enjoyable!
2. Give your bikes on birthdays, instead of Christmas. After a number of years of putting together a number of bikes on Christmas Eve, my wife suggested we give our children their bikes on their birthday. That way, there's only ONE bike at a time to put together the night before their birthday. Good idea1

Not for my son but I helped my dad build a 5 foot tall half pipe for my brother one year. That thing was beast.

Probably going to be the basketball goal he got this year.

Most of their Christmas gifts over the years haven't been too bad. I have assembled one of those big wooden treehouse swing sets with the help of 4LSU2 and Thomas Magnum but it wasn't Christmas. I believe it was about 110 degrees in August.

One of those. And all the screw, nuts, bolt, washers etc were all in the same f$%king bag. I did it in a day but it was a pain in the arse.

A metal swing set. had to make 2 trips to the hardware store, because the provided hardware was too f'ing small or missing.
Also some kind of gigantic lego train set. Every time the kids would touch it, the f'ing thing fell apart. I spent like 10 hours building and rebuilding the stupid thing. We exchanged that POS for something else.
