| re: Screw Rotten Tomatoes overall %, what did the M/TV board think of The Hobbit (Posted on 12/23/12 at 6:53 pm to iwyLSUiwy)
I rewatched LOTR recently and IMO, The Hobbit was right there with them in terms of quality. LOTR had the benefit of coming first and thus had the "wow" factor. If Hobbit had came out first, I think the movie would be up in the 90s on RT.

I have seen it twice now, both in Imax 3D. Easily a 10/10. I loved this movie and will be seeing it again in the theatre.

10/10 for me. I never read the book. There is nothing about it that bugged me. I also wondered why the Eagles couldn't just carry them all the way to the mountain but I figured there was a reason explained in the book but cut from the movie. Or if nothing else it'd make for a short movie if the eagles did that.

Posted by beaverfever IMO it was a movie for hardcore LOTR junkies/nerds.
Im no hardcore fan. I've never read neither of the books and still loved it.

The script was average by crappy sci-fi standards and the movie was long and boring.

There are places they prefer not to fly, such as the lonely mountain (because of smaug and men who shoot arrows) and mordor later on (sauron is all seeing and has flying creatures). Plus they are described as a proud sentient race that are not fond of transporting people.

I know some people said they didn't care for the dish washing song, but I really enjoyed it. It gave the feel as if you were reading the book and I dont think they could of done it any better. Oh and the portrayal of Dale and Erebor was amazing!

The song of that's what bilbo baggins hates is when I knew it was going to be really good. It made me excited for the whole series.

Lifelong JRRT fan. Have read The Hobbit and LOTR countless times. Saw it yesterday in 2-D and was not disappointed at all. The definitely tinkered with the story a bit for pacing, and the elements that were added did not bother me in the least. Thought the scenes w/ a certain wizard really set up the next two and I am much less apprehensive about them "stretching" this out. Dale/Erebor were fantastic. 9.5/10. Spoilers: It is interesting they have made Thorin a much more sympathetic and noble character. I actually like the treatment and should make the final act that much more powerful.

C'mon man, you gonna take anything serious from a Justin Beiber fan?

Yeah, I really loved that part. I really think the only reason Jackson put it in there was to assure the readers that this was the book come to life and a much more faithful adaptation than LotR. Really reassuring scene.

Thanks for that answer. I figured there was a good reason.

Yeah I loved fhat they added the songs. A good bit of people were laughing in theatre during the riddle scene. Is it just me that didn't see that part as funny. That part and Spoiler when bilbo talks to Smaug towards the end of the book. Those were the two eeriest parts of the book. Felt the same way in the movie.

Let me take an educated guess here. If I really didn't give a shite about Tolkien's books when I was younger, and I became bored shitless with Jackson's LOTR movie trilogy, I would probably do well just to skip The Hobbit, amirite?

The biggest issue is that the movie was just 3 hours worth of set-up for the rest of the film. When watched with the complete trilogy it might become a better film, but on its own it really wasn't anything special.

Yeah, Gollum is an incredibly tragic character. He is completely despicable, but completely pitiable all at once. Think the best part of both this film and LotR was Bilbo sparing Gollum. You definitely feel terrible for Gollum in that instance, but then he quickly reminds you why you despised him in the first place.

Just give it a shot. They are two totally different tones in each movie. I was in New Orleans all weekend in the suite for the game. Would have bought the MVP of the hornets board a beer if he was there
