Kafka, sorry I didn't respond sooner. Been traveling. As far as the Speakeasy goes, it stayed open from the mid-late 60's (not sure exactly) until the early 70's when some hippie bought it and turned it into a restaurant called "'Mother Earth". That didn't last long. It eventually became a car dealership (I want to say Volvo) for a while and was finally torn down probably in the early 90's or shortly before the big condos started going up.
Some of the bands we saw there included :
Johnny Winter MC5 (badass !) Brownsville Station ( original artist for Smokin in the Boys' Room)
as well as Potliquor, War Babies, Iscoseles Popsicle, and other local favorites.

The Circuit Breakers were a lot of fun back in the 80's. A couple of years ago I stumbled into the reincarnated Circuit Breakers; I think Bruce Lamb is all that is left from the original band but I enjoyed the new incarnation.
Not Baton Rouge bands but A-Train and Asleep at the Wheel played Baton Rouge pretty regularly and were favorites.
