Dont expect any common sense out of any of the politicians. All they are worried about is feel good legislation. Have they done anything with gun control thats worked? The gun free zones damn sure arent.

I found it very odd he mentioned...

hunting, target shooting and collecting... but not defense or home defense...

How many times have any of you heard that Lanza had the guns illegally?

I haven't heard that once. Just that his mother bought them legally. In CT a person can not carry a loaded weapon (maybe it's just pistol) outside of his home. Also, anyone under 21 can't possess any fireaarm.

If the president wants gun control, he can start by having his secret service agents and bodyguards trade their sub-compact uzis for stun guns and mace.

Why is it fair we should give up the ability to defend ourselves and he shouln't?

that's a key point he broke umpteen laws before he pulled the trigger....

Also, I find it extremely fishy that when the news was first coming out on this that they never was an AR mentioned, at least that I saw. All I saw was that the kid had two pistols. How do they fail to mention an AR? They knew who he was yet he had his brothers ID but they fail to mention that he had an AR?

Did I just miss it?

Fairness is only fair when it doesn't touch the politicians. Animal farm. We're all equal but some are more equal than others.

Patiently waiting.

So what was Obamas point? What was he pushing for?

This. The only way you or I can help is to renew or join the NRA. Just complaining here or to others who feel the same way won't accomplish anything, it's important to remember that.

It seems like the main attacks will come against larger capacity magazines, "hollowed out cop killer bullets," "high powered semi-automatic rifles," and gun shows. Again, the only way the national community will ever understand how wrong many of these talking points are is through NRA action. They're our voice, so support them any way you can.

eta: The best thing you can do is to tell anyone concerned about this to join the NRA, and spread the word. IF the politicians see a surge in NRA membership, it will hit them where it hurts most, in the voting booth.

Did Obama mention in his speech....the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT broke it's own laws by letting guns in the Fast and Furious scandal walk.

I would love to see a question where Obama is asked: "Mr President, the federal government was fine with giving assault weapons to cartel members that has killed hundreds of Mexican citizens and federal employees. Why is there now a change or policy."

I disagree, I think educating as many folks as you can on a new way to think about weapons they may or may not enjoy themselves is the best way.

My wife has been literally raised around guns her whole life, and said nothing was wrong with getting those automatic weapons out of everyones hands. So we talked about it, now she, if she chooses can politely discuss it with someone like herself.

I have had this conversation with three people that I never thought would side with more gun control as a solution. My wife and two hunters.

This tragedy has really hit home and folks are just emotionally searching for some action that may help. Even really good folks that hunt and fish.
