Is an Anderson receiver cheaper? Yeah probably. But doing your own 80% lower isn't about saving a dime. It's just fun to do. Shooting a rifle with your own designed roll mark and your name on the side is pretty damned rewarding when you get to the end of the tunnel.
Anodizing isn't necessary. But that can be done at home too pretty cheaply. Cerakote, Duracoat, and Alumahyde 2 are all options. Local guy would cerakote two stripped lower receivers for me for $60.

Thanks, the more I look through these kits the more dangerous this gets and I keep seeing the $$$ go up

Nah, not really. To me it's like taking a car and painting your name on it and feeling like you somehow built that car.
But hey, that's just my opinion and I was trying to help Mark Makers with his questions, not throw a bunch of useless bull crap at him by acting like drilling a couple of holes in a piece of aluminum with the help of a template makes me some kind of master firearms maker.

Yeah, just stick within your budget and a reputable company and you will be good to go. You can always upgrade later but more than likely won't have to, unless you just have the itch again.

Pros/cons to fixed stock or adjustable? I have no experience with a gun with an adjustable stock.

It's mostly preference. A fixed stock will give you better support and is more sturdy. An adjustable stock is good for smaller shooters, portability or if you plan on wearing body armor. Some like it of course for the look. Personally, I like a fixed A2 but do own and enjoy the compactness of adjustable stocks.

Do you only pay one transfer fee even if you buy more than one at once? Or is it per lower? $38 plus a $20 transfer fee and it's really no cheaper than me going pick one up in the store for $60. I could understand if I was buying a couple at a time and only paying one transfer fee.

If you think you might want to change out the hand-guard in the future to something free floating you might better off $$$ time and energy wise building your own upper assembly. The front sight gas block is held on with taper pins and can be a bitch to take off. If you don't want to take off the gas block you can always just chop the front sight off if you need a low profile gas block to go under a handguard.

Did someone who built an 80% AR lower frick your wife or something? That's the only reason I could think of why you seem to be so emotionally invested speaking out against 80% lowers.
I'm just sharing informaion. MM might not use it but maybe there is someone else out there that does use it. That's what this thread if for right? Sharing information on AR15s?
I have 3 stripped Anderson lowers I got from AIM. The $39 price after shipping and FFL put them around $51 each. Just 1 was $75 ($10 shipping and $25 FFL). Ordering just 1 makes the deal a little more sour.

Depends on the dealer. Most here are more expensive ($25-30) but they will handle multiple guns with one fee.

If you read my post, I mentioned the reasons why someone would want an 80% lower. Here they are again:
1. You plan on buying these in bulk and producing for profit, which is illegal.
2. You just plain enjoy machining 20% of one part of the rifle.
3. You're a felon and not allowed to buy a finished receiver legally.
You obviously fall within 2. I never said there was anything wrong with that, and it's fine if that's what you want. I understand that this thread is for sharing AR information, but you jumped in the present conversation with information that was only confusing and not cost efficient to someone with basic questions about value and cost effiency. No one gives a shite about your family crest on a firearm that you did not build, only assembled. But if you like it, that's what matters.

I believe I showed that if the tools are available that you can have an Anodized and a in the white lower for around $40 at your doorstep. $40 at your door all in after shipping, taxes, everything is cheaper than $39 + shipping + ffl. Basic math. Learn it!
