so I am thinking about building from scratch.. getting that itch.
so far i am considering a Larue Stealth barrel and Larue MBT-2s trigger and just filling everything else in from there lol.. Or I might just buy those and put them in my current Black Riffle

For Red on Red
RED I know you were interested in the Rogue Hunter a few days ago this is on sale thru the weekend or while supplies last. If you still plan to build they have chainsaw parts on sale as well

Anybody want to recommend me a sight?

Want to keep it on the lower end as this was a budget build.

Would like some sort or rear flip up sight plus a red dot that will work with the fixed front sight.

I would suggest a vortex strike fire 2 for a budget build

I like my vortex strike fire. I recommend it as well.

I also have a Burris on my S&W-22 and it works great for it.

I have the Primary Arms advanced microdot on one of my AKs. I like it a lot and the 50,000 hour battery life means I can leave it turned on all the time.

How much play is tolerable between the upper and lower? Mine feels loose but it ain't going nowhere and shoots fine. Is there anyway to tighten it up?

There is a little wedge type thing that you can put in there that will tighten it up. I'll see if I can find it for you.

Here it is:

Completely new to AR-15s but interested in purchasing an "entry level" lower end gun to get my feet wet with them. What is everyone's opinion on the DPMS Oracle?

LINK

I really think I would enjoy building one but at this stage having never even fired one, the amount of information, parts and pieces out there is pretty overwhelming. It's probably best that I buy something complete before diving off into something I know nothing about.

If you want a 16" barrel, go with a midlength gas system. It is more reliable and won't beat your gun up as much. Look at Palmetto State Armory for parts kits. They use a lot of FN parts (most notably their barrels) for very good prices. It's nothing to build one. You really are just assembling a few parts if you buy a parts kit and a lower receiver. People overuse the word "build". The savings comes from only paying a 10% excise tax on the lower, rather than the entire gun as if it were bought already assembled.

I agree with all of that. Buy a lower, buy a lower parts kit from Palmetto. You can watch a youtube video that will walk you through the entire process. I've done 3 so far. Each very easy. Then shop for your upper. Put the upper on the lower, and you are done. Chances are, you can get the entire gun for around $500 if you are patient and wait on good deals.

You can get the lower parts, upper, stock, etc. all in one kit to save you money. Only the lower receiver must be bought through an FFL.

Here's some of their parts kits for sale now. Their stock and prices vary day to day.

Find any lower receiver you want, and the rest is simple.

So something like this LINK
plus a lower receiver would still put me around the $500 range.

Anything in particular to look for when shopping for a lower receiver or any recommendations?
