i know it's been hashed out before on this board, but i'll ask it anyway.
did you guys buy it cash/credit, or did you go the finance route?

Most of these people here are going to act like they dropped 8K for a ring and paid cash for it like they're some ballers, all while living in a studio apartment.
Smart money would be to save, buy wholesale, save money through a private jew-ler. Never finance anything that doesnt appreciate in value.

Set a reasonable budget for yourself and pay cash. She won't mind.

Cash for this reason, Blue Nile cuts a small % off for wiring them the money. More $ saved than just getting the points on my CC.
It was around $7,300 and only had that $ since I was doing well after my deployment. At that time I had around 40k in the bank. No way could I have done so at any other point in my life.
I thought it was an absurd amount of money but I love her like crazy and glad she's happy. I didn't have a doubt in my mind it was a wrong move so I'm good with it, the ring is the tits. You'll learn a lot about diamonds in the process. I talked with Blue Nile's people over 3 hours total on multiple occasions.
It was a great shopping experience with them and highly recommend. The diamond I ended buying was $1500 cheaper than the one I had my eye on for a while. They buy diamonds like a market goes. Meaning spending more on a certain diamond may not mean it's a nicer diamond, the market caused them to purchase that specific diamond at a higher cost. Let them help you out for knowledge anyway.
Steer clear of the big box stores for the most part, imo.
Good luck and congrats!

It's too bad JerseyTiger doesn't post here any more. He'd tell you how "fricking stupid you are for buying a diamond ring, you stupid cu*t!!!"

buying a diamond is one of the dumbest things a person can do.
You should just buy a CZ and flush the other 90% down the toilet. That way, at least you would have a flawless stone.

I just went through all of this. The jeweler I went to provides financing through Wells Fargo.
Wells Fargo provides financing on jewelry at 0% interest if paid in full within six months. After that, the full amount borrowed (not the amount outstanding) gets something like 25% interest.
I went this route. I will pay it off in February.
ETA - I hate diamonds. So does my fiance. We got a sapphire.

Aucoin Heart had 0% for 12 months when I bought mine. Just spread the cost out over the year.

This is what I would do if the option was available. I paid cash because ramsey's gave you 5% off. Either way though.

The ring was only $3,500. bought it at a sale, about 20% off.
paid cash. always pay cash. nothing will piss you off more then paying the finance note on that thing a year late after she left you for the fricking pool boy.

At the time I was right out of school and didn't have much money. Thus I bought it on credit at 0% interest. It was my goal to pay it off before the wedding, so I really sacrificed and cut back spending to make it happen.

quote:I was shocked at the imperfections is my daughter's diamond ring. I have one of those 35X cameras you connect via USB to your PC. I put her diamond under it and WOW! You can't see any of the stuff suspended within the stone with your naked eye, but under magnification, it was really revealing.

I've done the same thing with other diamonds with the same result.
A CZ stone was perfect. No bubbles or spots within it.
