Commercial radio stations play music that appeals to a wide range of people and a large audience. Some people are under the impression that it automatically makes any pc of music played on a commercial station "bad."
Those people are fools and miss out on a lot of fun music.

but seriously, i know it's technically country music because that's the label society has put on it, but i don't think it's the same. yes, all things change, but the majority of country music that gets radioplay these days is tailored to the zippers with stereotypes of rural individuals/settings.
i believe you like what you like, but the same is true for those of us who don't appreciate modern pop country. i like eric church and believe he is the best current country musician that gets airplay on pop country stations.
i like some of jason aldean, but i do not believe a word he sings. he's never taken a tractor another round, another round underneath an amarillo sky. he sings a lot about geography and i don't buy him ever going to rome ga or paris tn. i know that's not the only thing that matters because i enjoy the songs, but i believe ben nichols when he says his guitar is his best girl. even though i know cory branan is not miguel simone, i believe it when he sings it. it's real.
some people write for the sake of writing and i can usually tell the difference. that carries over into music for me.

Check out Jason Boland.
He is similar to the old guys. His first albums were all about drinking and partying and then he got older and his music started getting darker and he started singing about rehab.
I like music that makes me feel what the artist is singing about. Boland does that and the old country singers do that. That's why I like it so much.

that's the point i'm trying to make. if i'm down, a sad song with some feeling will instantly elevate my mood. i guess it's because it lets me know i'm not the only person who has felt like shite for getting drunk and doing something stupid or mistreating a good lady or a combination of the two.

I dislike modern country, and don't care for the Texas stuff either, but my wife likes radio/pop/country and it's the sound that appeals to her, much to my chagrin.
The world of music has something for everyone, and that's a good thing IMO

Not one time in this entire thread have I ever stated that Kenny Chesney is a great songwriter. I have asserted that he is an incredible singer and performer who puts on amazing shows. I further stated that he has written thousands of songs and that his career began as a songwriter in Nashville. That is a statement of fact, not baseless opinion, which can easily be confirmed simply by using Google, something you might consider doing for future posts to prevent you from erroneously crediting songs to the wrong person. As for your misquoting posters, I suggest reading the damn posts before you type.

And no, you didn't say that to Doc (I added that part myself), but you seemed incredulous of the fact that he had ever even been to a concert, let alone actually knows what he's talking about. And there was no emoticon, but that's neither here nor there.
I don't give a flying frick whether or not Kenny Chesney is your favorite artist to ever live. I just think it's hilarious that you're so pissed off over the fact that most of us happen to think he sucks. You're entitled to your opinion, does that same rule not apply to the rest of us?

Biggest difference today from the past....image. The greatest country songs of all time are generally self deprecating. Singers today won't sing about anything that doesn't portray them as awesome or how life's one big party.
Plus lyrically speaking, it's night and day. I don't know how to explain this but music today doesn't make you think. They spell everything out for you. Nothing left to the imagination.
