When do we start putting the blame on Monty Williams?

Obviously it's not his fault that players are hurt and he can only do so much with what is on the court, but when do we as Pelicans fans quit giving him a free pass? His "defense" strategy is overblown as teams are constantly scoring 100+ on the Pelicans now. Plus the fact that it is consistent that the Pelicans fall apart after the first half, but yet the coaching strategy never seems to change.

If you watched last season you know that he is an excellent coach. We are so vastly overmatched by everyone right now. Our 2 best players are a slow PG, who is not much better than a backup guard in the league and a PF shooter who isn't meant to be the leading scorer of the team. Other than that, the team is made up of bench and D-league players
If we are still getting blown out when EG and AD get back, maybe you can bring this up then.
Or just continue being resident HT pussy with danman

I agree but he seems to do it for the first 2 quarters, though

This.
We'd maybe have 2 or 3 more wins with Phil Jackson coaching this squad.

I was talking about this tonight. After going back and forth, I stopped here for now.
If Monty was a bad coach, we'd be hosed in the first quarter as much as in the third, right? I haven't run the numbers because I want to think on whether this is a reasonable test.
Being particular to the third quarter clearly points to halftime adjustments, but it could be a coaching issues (like he's good with more time but can't think on his feet) or personnel issues, meaning the roster is just missing so many skills he can't both adjust to keep attacking the bad guys and adjust enough to keep them from shutting you down.
It seems to me, from memory only, so possibly flawed, that it's our offense that goes away. Then, giving up points on turnovers kills the defensive numbers (not that they'd be top 5 without them).
Also, by Monty here, I mean the coaches collectively. Ultimately, it's on Monty, but the staff can change without losing Monty.

overstatement
Phil Jackson has NEVER did shite or even tried to with a team without having Jordan/Pippen or Shaq/Kobe on a team . the most overrated coach of all time in the NBA

Opposing starters' mentality v Hornets:
Sleepwalk throughout first half, blow it open in the 3rd, make club reservations in the 4th
The Hornets have a JV squad right now. Even Norman Dale needed Jimmy Chitwood.

I don't think you can call a coach with 11 championships overrated

I really believe it's just talent. Monty has shown clever sets and plays in the past. You can't scheme such a huge talent deficit like the Hornets have without Gordon and Davis.
Also other teams just don't take the Hornets seriously. Look at Miami v the depleted Spurs and against the Wizards. Miami took those games for granted when they both should have been blowout wins. It happens in an overly long regular season when teams only care about the playoffs
Edit- Its tough to judge the offense when there is very little talent. When teams d up it is very hard for the talent right now to get good shots. If there are still problems with full roster then we should worry.

Yes. This is the way I'm leaning at the moment. I was acknowledging why it might appear to be coaching, and that it could be, but the disparity between 1st and third quarter results seems to point away from that to a degree.
Eichenfhofer had this:
4th quarter is Hornets' best so far (rank 6th in NBA in scoring margin). Rank 13th in first quarter; 26th in second quarter; 30th in third
LINK
Saves some research.
Points to talent, not coaching.
Why is it better in the 4th? we can advance the score in garbage time and Anderson got lots of bench minutes early on.

I can't remember because seems forever ago but didn't we struggle in 3rd in Montys first year? Seems like we had to have some huge 4th.quarters.from some players then
Posted on 12/5/12 at 10:49 pm to 42
4th quarter is also the time when a losing team like this is playing against the bench of the opposing team....cant take that stat seriously. Hornets are terrible in the 3rd and that says alot.

Home-Road Splits:
3rd quarter D-Rating at home - 112.6. Road - 114.0
3rd quarter O-Rating at home - 84.3. Road - 119.2.
This shows the drop on offense at home. What's the deal? Monty's a bad coach at home? We played tougher defenses at home?
Youth is supposed to react to home-road, but in the other way.
Odd.
