Just ordered some 07 and 08 Zacherle Syrah. He's the winemaker at David Arthur and its his boutique. Wanted to try it.

Just received my Shypoke Sangiovese. It's the 2010 and it needs to sit awhile. I'm a Sangiovese fan. Think I'll have a DA Meritaggio tonight after reading this thread.

Good list L.A.

The dozen is available direct from Mollydooker shipped to your door and has all of the following for $499.

'06 Enchanted Path
'11 Gigglepot
'11 The Maitre D
'11 Velvet Glove
'11 Two Left Feet
'08 The Violinist
'11 Carnival of Love
'11 Blue Eyed Boy
'11 The Boxer
'11 Enchanted Path
'10 Miss Molly
'11 The Violinist

Ultimately it saves you $200+ as opposed to retail and The Velvet Glove alone goes about $180-200 a bottle while rating 96/97 by most raters. As an added benefit you are entered into the Molly Club which has tastings and events nationwide plus special edition magnums and varietals offered at a discount to members.

That's a good deal. I'm a member and a big fan. I' went to their tasting at Ruffinos. Great time. You will love the Velvet Glove. I've had it several times. Ruffin sells Blue Eyed Boy by the glass. But my absolute favorite is the Gigglepot. It is a great wine. Enjoy.

Calandros is carrying a few.

Syrahs and Malbecs are my favorites. I think your list may be right up my alley.

Considering that The Velvet Glove is included, that really sounds like a good deal. I LOVE getting wine in the mail.

Me too., There's actually a winery in Santa Barbara County (Stolpman) that is growing sangiovese and making really good wines with it. It's definitely a California take on sangiovese, but I really like it.

bro in law is a big wig for Gallo Wines in Napa

told me that 95% of people cant tell the difference between a $10 bottle and a $100 bottle.

The big time oak aged wines that run in the 100s are different and so are the cheap $3-5 wal mart wines that use the leftover juices.

other than that he said go ahead and drink up on the $8/10/20 bottles. ive always read tons of experts say the same thing so we just buy shite under $15 and people tell us how good our wine is

Hard to believe you put a list together in this price range and didn't come up with a single wine form France, Italy, or Germany. Or any othe Old World region for that matter.

I'm curious, what does your brother in law do for Gallo? Is he in sales? I ask because the statement reflects a lack of understanding of what the price of a bottle of wine means.

The price of a wine is a reflection of two things: 1. How much it cost the winery to produce the wine. 2. How much the winery thinks it can charge for the wine and still have people buy it. It's not a declaraton of how good the wine is. There is no simple calculus of, "If the wine costs this much it's good and if it costs that much it's bad."

I've had very expensive wines that weren't very good and inexpensive wines that were very good. The trick is in knowing which is which. Again, the price has nothing to do with how good the wine is.

I probably taste over 500 wines each year. When I publish my two lists I'm telling you which wines I liked the best from the wines I tasted in the past year. Hopefully I save people some money. Hopefully I steer them toward some wines they may not have tried, but may enjoy.

I dont know about the rest of you, but why would anyone doubt what someone who works for a company that makes millions of dollars peddling plonk says about wine, preferences, and taste?

If you'll excuse me, I need to go re-read Roger Goodell's indictments against the evil Saints.

I need to give some very good reds to someone who did a huge favor for me this year. I don't know much about wines and I don't drink reds.

Any suggestions and also where might I order to have them sent to him?

I'm looking for 50-75 buck range and I'll probably send 2 or 3.

The Mollydooker Blue Eyed Boy, the Mollydooker Gigglepot, the Orrin Swift Mercuryhead, Orrin Swift Pappilion, Beau Vigne Romeo, David Arthur Meritaggio, Shypoke 08 Sangiovese, Miner Sangiovese! Orrin Swift Palermo ( am drinking it now as I type-really nice) among a few.

Try a large format as well. A magnum or even bigger if justified.

Others to look at are Elhse, Biale, Zacherle (I'm waiting on these) David Arthur Elevation and the Mollydooker Velvet Glove are a bit more pricey but worth it.

Out of the above my favorite For the money is the David Arthur Meritaggio. It's about $55-$60 and it can be dangerous.

And any Mercury Head you find buy it.

Gris Gris, 11 of the 12 wines on my list are reds, so that's a good place to start. I also listed the retail prices. Any of the wineries in my list will ship their wines. Generally speaking you can count on a cost of about $20 to ship 3 bottles of wine.

Hope that helps.
