My son shot his first one the the other day. We don't get many mallards or pintails where we hunt. It's a pretty specimen. I put it in the freezer, but am undecided about investing $300 on it for him...

It's his first man, don't cheap out on the memories...

And red heads look pretty good mounted too.

Go for it, my dad had my first big green head mounted when I was young. I love that mount, still hanging in my room, the $300 does not compare to the memory of the hunt he will have for years to come.

Mount it. I'm waiting on my first pintail drake for a mount.

I shot a huge bull sprig last year and put it in my freezer. Ended up not mounting it and I really regret it.

I posted a pic on FB captioned "My son's first red head" All my buddies came back with "Wait till he gets a hold of his 2nd redhead"

Guess that settles it. Que my "Recommend a good taxidermist in Houma" thread.

I'm sitting here looking at my first greenhead as I type. Mount it, the cost is small next to the memories its worth.

Crazy/good (lucky) shot, hadn't seen many of them where we hunt and it was the first one I had ever killed. I was proud of it so I had it mounted. Spent about 200 6-7 seasons ago @ Deep South Taxidermy in Lafayette. This guy also did my first ever duck, which was a hen spoonbill.

Steve German is a taxidermist in sulpher and he is as good as it gets. Awesome shop too if you want to look at exotics and what not.
