Coyote question

They are very VERY common around us and am trying to think of the best way to catch a bunch of them.
Would this work? Anybody tried?
Was thinking if I kill a deer this weekend and put the remains in a hog trap would the coyotes go in the trap? Is the trap doors to strong to open for coyotes.
Can anybody recommend a better way to trap several at a time?
Thanks.

Drop a safe or piano from a tall tree. It will always land on the coyote

Why do you want to trap them?

What area are you from? I know some great trappers, I dont have the time to do it full bore anymore like I used to.

I've known guys that use the big live traps they use for catching dogs, try bait that smells really strong, sardines or something. I prefer to catch mine with a .22 lr or .17 hmr. Foot traps work really good....until you catch your hand or pet dog.

My Paw would shove aboue 15 asprins in a few different hotdogs and leave them around the camp and out of reach for pets.
The asprin would thin out the blood too much and the coyotes would be dead.

I think coyotes might have killed a deer behind my house last night. Was grilling out and man, they were going crazy. It was pretty crazy to hear. I've heard it before, but this was less than 100 yards in back of my house. I have a deer feeder out, and saw deer back there earlier in the day. I'm gonna do some hiking when I get home from work today to see if I can find any evidence of a kill. If I find anything I'll post pics.
What you probably need to get is a distressed rabbit call. I've heard you can get one on a CD, so you could pop that CD in the radio and sit and wait with a gun and some bourbon.

You won't get a coyote in a hog trap. In my opinion footholds are the way to go. If you want to catch more than one at a time put out more traps. The first one is the hardest to catch but after that they are pretty easy. I just got my traps out to start setting tomorrow so if you decide to go with footholds or snares I can snap some pics of a couple sets to help you.

SNARES
Check for local coyote pens around your area. Call them and ask them how much they give for live coyotes.
Use any left over guts/meat from a kill. We used this big boar hog as coyote bait. Dead Piggy Leave it a couple days and coyotes will make trails to the kill. Then put snares on the trails that they make. They sell for somwhere around 140$/piece.

I caught a yote in a hog trap using a live chicken as bait, but it only happened once. Tried a few other times but no luck.

A guy I know with a cattle ranch used to set foothold traps around his sick or dead cattle and always catch several at a time.
