This makes me hate the NFL and ESPN. They subjected us to ridiculous rumors that Payton could only be seeking a job in Dallas if he had not gotten a contract extension yet, and the whole time Payton didn't even have authority to negotiate one? Shocker.

How freaking hard is it to get permission to negotiate a contract. I would think it takes a quick phone call to the NFL.
It's not like Payton would be speaking with the team, his agent would be doing that.
