A source with direct knowledge of the situation has informed me tonight that Arkansas athletic director has NOT made an offer to LSU head coach Les Miles.
A report from the website SportsByBrooks.com first reported a 5-year deal was on the table for Miles to become the head coach of the Razorbacks.
The New Orleans Times-Picayune claims they can confirm the information is true. According to Jim Kleinpeter, Miles has been offered 5-years and $27.5 million.
LSU sports information director Michael Bonnette told the Times-Picayune tonight, "It's been brought to Les' attention and he didn't have anything to say."
I can confirm, however, that Miles has not been offered the job, nor has he been approached by Arkansas athletic director Jeff Long.
Long expects to name a coach within the next 8-12 days.

No doubt they talked to miles agent but have not directly talked to miles yet
That would require permission from alleva. So this is all semantics

Statement I would make if I were Joe Alleva to Les Miles and his agent:
"Sean Payton is looking for a Job and would be agreat fit at LSU. We talked to Don Yee and for the right investment, we have began negotiations. Giving him 7 mill would solidify us and keeping Chavis and firing Studd and Krags could supplement this increase above yours." "HAVE A GREAT DAY!" AND ...

Nobody is offered a job like this until there's an understanding reached thru intermediaries. If they don't reach an informal agreement, there's never an offer. That way there's deniability on both sides. Nothing in the AD's statement precludes that negotiations may be underway. Not saying there are or aren't, just that this disclaimer doesn't mean anything.

Schools only "offer" the job once the coach has accepted. Looks too bad to be turned down.

The Arky AD has to save face if Miles does turn down the job. The more people that turn down the job the worse the position looks to other possible candidates.
Nothing is funnier than watching a program that thinks its shite don't stink getting turned down by everyone they offer a job to. See Nebraska in the 90s.

There never is an official "offer" unless the offered party accepts. No school was to get turned down so they talk an unofficial offer to test the potential hire's interest. This way all parties can deny or no comment.
Make no mistake, with regard to coaching offers, where there's smoke there is always a fire. Arkansas AD might not have officially "offered" the position to Miles, but A phone call asking his theoretical interest in the possiblility of coaching for Arkansas for 5yr/$27.5M probably happened.
In the end, Miles will get what he deserves. More money from LSU. It will either be for himself or for his assistants, but in the end, LSU will pay him and rightfully they should.
I've watched programs think 10-2, 9-3 wasn't good enough b/c they had gotten spoiled and they took a nosedive after they fired the coach. They still haven't recovered. The most recent example is Nebraska firing Frank Solich after a 9-3 season. He was 58-19 in 6 years at Nebraska. They let him go. They are 65-38 since he was let go. It happens. It happens to teams with national brands, good recruiting, and a rich dominant history of football. When you have a coach that year in and year out has you in position to win conference and national championships, you don't fire him or let him go to a rival. You pay him his money, and keep the juggernaut of a football program that is at the top of its game going. Newsflash, Miles has more 10-win seasons at LSU than total years his predecessor coached at LSU.

Ponanmsky tweeted yesterday that this is the same media that said Petrino would never be fired.
