Just made a Great Gumbo

However, my step-daughter refuses to try it thinking it has seafood in it. I made a chicken, okra, andouille gumbo with no seafood. We all know how long it takes to make a good gumbo and I put my heart and soul in this and yet she won't even try it.
She has a Mexican boyfriend and eats their menudo (sp.) and all their crap always, but refuses to try my gumbo. Maybe I'm being too sensitive but damn that pisses me off. Sorry for the rant/over

Menudo? Tripe stew? Doesn't eat your gumbo? It's a 'papi' thang.

Well she doesn't seem too bright to begin with since apparently she can't look in a pot and tell the difference between a shrimp and a piece of chicken, then you toss the dating a Messican out there and well....just let it go. Enjoy your gumbo.

So she won't eat it because she thinks there's seafood in it? But you told her there's no seafood and she still won't try it?
Well that's odd.
I would get your feelings hurt over it. Some people are just like that and they won't try things they're uncomfortable with. I especially don't understand people who won't at least try something they've never had. Doesn't make sense to me..but I guess that's because ill try just about anything

I had a rant on here a few months back about cooking up something good that you're proud of and then someone won't eat it because of a stupid reason.
In my case it was a party, and the reason was because there were onions. Gets under my skin and I don't know why.

I guess I'm gettin too butt hurt over this but DAMN it pisses me off! Just to clarify, my wife, her Mom is from Iowa and doesn't like fish at all, but her Mom does like shrimp, oysters and such. Her daughter, however doesn't want anything out of the water, whatsoever and despises my Cajun culture.
Yeah, I'm pissed and cannot understand why someone wouldn't at least try something new knowing the time it took to prepare. Especially when it's so good!

quote:It´s a 'papi' issue, let it go. Yeah, it sucks big time, and I´m sure that gumbo is ballin', but don't go 'round and 'round in your head about what has nothing to do with you (directly).

strain her a bowl of okraless gumbo and give her another chance... she probly just saw that slimy nastiness floating on top..

she is doing it because she doesn't like you because you are not her real dad
It is her way to hurt you. The illogical reason is the only thing she can think of.

Don't be upset that she is missing out on one of the best foods ever.

She has bigger problems than her choice of food.

Did you try telling her there was no seafood in the gumbo in Spanish?
Posted on 11/18/12 at 10:53 pm to thickandthin
Yeah, should have left out the okra.

Maybe there was too much oil on your roux?
