Baton Rouge has only ever had, to my knowledge, ONE Greek restaurant. It was Zorbas and it was located in the space now occupied by Louisiana Lagniappe. It was fantastic.

This is correct.

The only kitchens serving authentic Greek food in town are those in the homes of the handful of Greek families residing in BR.

I miss the red snapper Marie, the moussaka,

it was an awesome first date place, it was a little different, had good wine, good food, spurred some conversation, was quiet enough to talk but not too romantic for a first date

Never had Greek food in Baton Rouge. Have had plenty of bullshite "Mediterranean" places serving shawarma, hummus and other such nonsense.

I honestly haven't tried too many Greek places in BR

That's because there are none.

There is some good Lebanese food to had. Albasha is the gold standard, IMO. And yes, Zorba's WAS freaking awesome.

Side note: Anyone ever eaten in Greek Town in Chicago?

try the fried cheese at albasha

It's Haloumi cheese. My favorite appetizer at Greek/Lebanese restaurants in BR. I am having problems finding a good one in Jackson. These places up here call themselves Greek restaurants yet their whole menu will be Pitas and french fries.

Not in BR but to me Kamal's is better than all those in BR. Kamal's is in Gonzales.

Ate there today and it was great, but the bigger story is Kamal himself. I was eating with a group of friends discussing fund raising ideas for the family of Kyle Meyers, the young man killed last week in the motorcycle accident, Kamal found out what we were talking about and donated 150 combo plates for us to sell. This guy puts the community first every time.

Albasha is by far the best of the main multiple location ones.

Serops differs to much from location to location, also some are not open on weekends, some close super early.

Romans is 2 on my list, but albasha dominated them

I don't know about Jackson, but there's a great place in Hattiesburg across the street from Southern Miss called the Petra Cafe. They had the best grape leaves I've ever had that weren't made by my SO's family.

I've only tried Albasha and Arzi's. Albasha for the best food, but Arzi's for the better price.
