How does one "lose" a mounted fox?
He moved around a lot after high school and it just kinda got left behind somewhere. He was not very responsible at the time.

Why kill a fox unless they're raiding your chicken coop?

My dad turned over his trapping hobby to me when I was 10. I ran fox traps for a couple of years until fur prices went down. My line was wooded, so I mostly caught greys, but I caught one or two reds.

I have shot several of both colors. We would kill them year round in Indiana as kids. Used to catch them in traps also.

I live on Ft Morgan road. Many coyotes and deer out here also. In the winter when traffic isnt so bad you see them on the road at night all the time. Lots of endangered beach mice for them to eat. The Gulf Shores cops have the okay to shoot them at night out here and also in the State Park areas where there isnt too much public.

My stepdad slaughtered a whole den of pups when I was younger. Most of the people where I lived in rural IN was farmland and many raised chickens. we had over 200,000 chickens at any given time. Off Topic but I also had an Uncle who would kill Porpoise with a pitchfork while we were fishing from his boat. He hated em. Both of these guys would be in jail under today's standards. I guess I had a messed up childhood now that I think about it. My role models were horrible.

Around or about 15 years ago, at least, I was picking purple hulls out in the garden one day in late August. I had just baled the second cuttin of hay and the hay field was nice and smooth. I had this den of groundhogs at the other end of the hayfield that I was trying to kill out. So...I had my 30.06 leaning against a pine tree just in case one of those groundhogs decided to wander out and look around. Keepin an eye out for groundhogs and pickin purple hulls at the same time, I saw this very strange looking critter walkin my way through the cattle pasture. I had never, ever seen anything that looked like this thing. It had a big tuft of hair or fur on the end of it's tail and the rest of the body was completely hairless. It looked like some kind of exotic African critter to me, but it had absolutely no fur or hair except for the ball of hair on the tip of it's tail. When this thing saw me, it stopped for about three seconds, staring straight at me, and then proceeded, at a trot now, straight for me. I dropped my bucket of purple hulls, grabbed that .06 and killed this "thing" about 50 yards from me by now. Still didn't know what it was, but I could tell it was some kind of canine. I called our local county agent (Mr. Kimble, we called him, but that wasn't his real name). Well, he came down here, chopped its head off and shipped the head to Virginia Tech to see if it was rabid or not since it had shown no fear and was coming straight at me. Turns out it was not rabid and it was a red fox that was slap eat up with the mange. Didn't have a scrap of hair or fur except for that little tuft of hair on the very end of it's tail. Mr. Kimble said I did that fox a favor by putting it out of its misery, but that fox didn't do me any favors by runnin straight at me, disguised as some kind of African Chupacabra critter intent on bitin my arse. That's the only fox I've ever killed.

I have killed 2 red foxes. 1 with a .308, one with a .30/30. Would have been a bunch of patch work for the taxidermist. I would like to get one with my .22 to get mounted. They are cool looking animals.
