I do not have one with a mix amp but I think the headset and the xbox/tv both plug into it so not sure how the 12 foot would be distributed. I just have the wireless kind

I just listen with my tv speakers and talk thru Kinect. I just started playing FPS games like a month ago but I have been playing Black Ops every night and plan on getting Black Ops 2. Do I need these?

You don't NEED them, but they come in handy. A decent set will actually help you hear people coming from around corners or walking up on you. If you're a pretty casual player, it's just a luxury. A lot of people buy these, also, so they can play their games without disturbing the rest of the house.

People always bitch about me. My wife and son will be sitting in the family room while I am playing and we just have our normal evening conservations, talking about our day and stuff, and everyone has to hear us....I totally forget I am on kinect. Plus people always bitch about reverb from the TV! I PROMISE I will get headphones before I play with you guys though...if you let me!

For games like CoD and BF3 they help a lot, but in halo it doesn't make much difference. There's so much shite and outside noise that it makes it tough to hear other peoples footsteps without a quality headset
