What can MLB do to gain popularity/ratings?

This years World Series ratings were piss poor. They continue to fall behind NFL, NBA, BCS bowl games, March Madness, etc in ratings. What can MLB do to fix it's product to get people watching again?
I think one issue is that when the MLB playoffs come around, people have already switched into football mode. MLB can't compete with NFL/NCAA football in popularity. It's a losing battle. If a fan's team isn't in the playoffs, they have generally stopped watching. What if they were to make the season a month shorter? Any ideas?

The product is fine. Football is king and nothing will change that for the immediate future.

I just think Baseball's time has passed. The sport doesn't interest enough of America anymore. It's like a product that just doesn't have the legs anymore and is outdated.

Major League Baseball is still more popular than the NBA and the college sports.
The 2 things I would change is make it a 154 game seasons and schedule double headers the WS should be over in the 2nd week of October tops.
Also they need to get rid of their no tolerance online video policy. Its ridiculous that ANYTHING and EVERYTHING Pro Baseball gets taken off youtube.

Cut down the number of games. Baseball cannot compete in September and October.

They shoulnt have put a WS game the same night at a NFL game. they need to attempt to try to schedule around that

Baseball is doing just fine. Some MLB owners are making more than NFL owners.
Ratings vary with teams, a year ago the World Series beat both Sunday Nite Football & MNF in ratings.
The Angels just got $3 Billion for 3rd tier TV rights. The Padres one of the smallest baseball markets just sold for over $800 million.
But if FOX wants to improve ratings get rid of Buck & McCarver

The easy answer is to televise fewer games. If you live in a city with a MLB team, you would see 150+ televised baseball games a year plus 3-4 national television games carried by ESPN, Fox, and TBS every week. The product is so over-saturated that by the end of the year, the average fan is basically tired of watching baseball. It's a lot to ask of a fan to watch 20+ postseason games not involving their favorite team in addition to all the games they watch involving their favorite team. Baseball ratings were great in the past because there weren't as many people with cable and a lot fewer games were televised locally. Watching a baseball game wasn't a chore, it was an event. That's not the case any more.

Well, considering they got close to the worst draw possible (Giants/Tigers) in terms of national fanbases... I'd say it wasn't unexpected.

I think they need to relocate some teams. The state of FL and the country of Canada should have their teams revoked. Meanwhile, baseball is huge in the south and there's one team, the Braves. LA, MS, and AL may have a smaller overall population, but those states love baseball.

One way would be to keep teams like the freaking Giants out of the WS.

Lol, using the Braves as an example of a good market. The only worse fans in baseball are the FL teams

IMO, baseball just isn't exciting unless you have a rooting interest.

MLB is doing fine. The ratings for the LCS were up 11%, I believe. It has almost become a cliche to bash baseball or predict its demise. The fact is, it is more popular than ever.

No, no I wasn't. Reading comprehension, learn it.

End the season much earlier.
Playoffs should start September 1st, if baseball was looking to maximize its ratings and compete less with football.
That'll never happen, though. People are too obsessed with "October baseball."
