Since the announcement of the “Champions Bowl” between the SEC and the Big 12, it’s been mostly confusion.
Is the bowl replacing a previous BCS bowl? Is it a part of the coming playoff? Every year? Where is it going to be played?
It looks like details are coming to light and will continue to do so next week.
Here’s what we know:
The site for the Champions Bowl is down to two locations: Arlington, Texas and New Orleans. It will be announced next week which location is the ultimate choice.
It won’t be named the “Champions Bowl” – if it is in Arlington, it’ll just be the Cotton Bowl. If in New Orleans, the Sugar Bowl.
The Champions Bowl will be a part of the national playoff semifinal rotation starting after the 2014 regular season.
On years when the game is not in the semifinal, it will be the SEC Champion vs BIg 12 Champion.
If the conference champion of either conference (or both) is in the playoff, both the SEC and Big 12 will have another team play in the game.
The game will take place on New Year’s Day (Jan 1st)
ESPN will reportedly pay $80 million a year to broadcast the Champions Bowl

New Orleans for sure.

Great stadium over there and all, but its fricking awful for a college football game.

i have a feeling they're gonna pick arlington. which will definitely suck.

My biggest issue with Cowboys Stadium is the location and set up. It really does not feel like a place to get amped up like New Orleans does when you walk down Poydras to the NC game.

they didn't answer this question. So if they choose Arlington, there will be no more Sugar Bowl every year?

Yeah this is pretty confusing considering the two conferences previous ties

yeah its awful. but i dont trust the people making this decision to take everything into account.

Not going to argue that the Superdome is in a better location for visitors, but doesn't Cowboy Stadium offer excellent tailgating?

Cowboys Stadium and the surrounding area is an infinitely better location than the dump that is the SuperDome and it's surrounding area.

its certainly cleaner no doubt. but its definitely not better. not for an event like this.
im not sure why you think the superdome is a dump though. its extremely nice.

There is just open parking spaces and grass. How is that better than being in the middle of one of the best party cities in the world?

and think for a whole bowl week where would you rather be. im sorry everyone is entitled to their opinion but arlington is just the wrong opinion.

New Orleans is a dump. OOOOO you can get drunk in the French Quarter. Guess what? You can get drunk anywhere! Cowboys Stadium + Arlington >>>>>>>>>>>> ShitDome + Nawlins.

yeah they sell alcohol in arlington but the experience for fans wouldnt be nearly as fun. and im guessing you have never stepped foot in the superdome (not in the last two years at least) since you keep calling it shitdome.

So is this game between the champs of the Big XII and SEC? But I'm lost because aren't they already locked into BCS bowls and the 4 team playoff is most likely to have one of the champions.
Fiesta Big XII
Sugar SEC
I wished the Orange had Big XII like it had Big 8.

There is nothing to do in Arlington but go to Cowboys Stadium. If you want to have a nightlife, you have to drive to Dallas or Fort Worth. The selling point of New Orleans is proximity. Once you get out of your cab at your hotel from the airport, you don't need to get in another vehicle until you leave.
I'm also wondering when was the last time you were in the Super Dome. Clearly it isn't on the level of Cowboys stadium, but it is far from a "shite Dome" now.
