My Experience in College Station

I've got time to sit down finally, so I thought I'd give my experience in Aggieland as an LSU student.
After hearing so much from my brother (a senior at A&M) and other Aggies about how friendly everyone is in College Station, I have to admit I was disappointed with my arrival. My first day in College Station while walking to my car, a couple people shout "frick you LSU". Doesn't offend me, but not all that nice either. So when I meet my brother and his friends for dinner, I joke about how Aggies aren't as nice as they say they are. My brother's friends, however, give me a speech about what can I expect, I'm just an a-hole LSU fan... Yeah, because walking to my car implies many frick you faggies.
I sat in the Aggie student section for the game, and things didn't improve at all. I, an LSU student and fan, participated in their sawing off of UT's horns (one of their pregame rituals) in good spirit. I hate UT, so really I enjoyed it too. Once the game started, however, some Aggie fans turned horrible. Had to hear "suck my..." the entire first quarter, got yelled at for telling people off for booing and disrespecting our injured players but was prowptly scolded for pointing out dives that Aggies took. Somehow got yelled at for bad calls for refs, as if I did it. Had to endure hearing Aggies threaten to kill Eric Reid after his late hit. Got taunted to "geaux home". Some jackass even yelled at my girlfriend for asking him to stop screaming in her ear.
In fact, I saw nothing that made me think they were the nice guys of the SEC until after the game. I think the only difference between Aggies and other schools is they aren't as sore losers as most of us. They're very trigger happy on the trash talk before the game or for the short time they're ahead, but once you respond with some of your own, you're called a trashy Louisianian. Frustrates me beyond belief both that they have such falsely high opinions of themselves, and their blatant hypocrisy.
tl;dr version: Aggies seem very hypocritical and thin skinned. Will dish trash talk but whine about how bad LSU fans are when you give it back. Present themselves as the nice guys of the SEC, but don't live up to expectations. I wouldn't care about getting taunted, cursed at, etc. if they didn't follow it up by saying what class acts they are and what horrible a fan base I'm associated with. In my opinion, this makes Aggies some of the worst fans in the SEC. Will never make the trip back unless I'm with a horde of LSU fans and I can keep the socializing with Aggies down to near zero.

In my experience they were almost too nice. But I was in the LSU student section during the game.

I just didn't really see it... I mean there were a few moments when people were nice, but then I still felt like I was getting talked down to. Which just seemed like a slap in the face, really.

Not my intention at all. I'm not really complaining about the insults, I'm just dumbfounded. I like it when people are being dicks, it's college football, there's supposed to be emotion behind it. But I don't see the "nice guys" thing that people talk about so I don't get why Aggies ride that ship so hard.
Guess you didn't read the long version, because I clearly wrote that it doesn't offend me, getting yelled "frick you" to. The thing that I guess you could say offended me (although again I would say more perplexed me than anything) was that those same types of people were saying that they're the nice guys of the SEC.

what do you want them to do? come shake your hand and say thank you for gracing us with your presence
have you seen the way people get treated when they come to baton rouge by some of our students?

But that's exactly my point. I don't tell everyone I'm a real stand up guy that'll treat you like an honored guest when you're at a football game at my school. The town, alumni, and students at Texas A&M all try to sell this appearance and I just don't see it.

My Son and two of his friends went to the game and sat with Aggie fans in front of and behind, and we had a very positive experience. Good conversation and light hearted ribbing. We all agreed we'd go back in two years, but will be more inclined to share "our" tailgate experience with these fine folks.
In short, we'll gladly travel to A&M again .

Sitting in the student section probably would cloud some judgement too.
A visiting fan who sits in the LSU student section and one who sits anywhere else in TS would probably have 2 different experiences and opinions of LSU fans.

Explain to me how, please. I repeat, I enjoy trash talk, both dishing it and receiving it. I just don't understand how people have these wonderful experiences of great people, when they were average fans with opinions of themselves to rival Bama's.

I do try to take that into account, but honestly I sat right next to a lonely USCe fan a couple weeks ago and she just got tiger baited. And again, LSU doesn't claim to be the friendliest fans to grace this earth, so I really view it rather differently.
But you could be right. Maybe it's just the students who don't live up to their own lofty nice guy expectations.

This. What did you expect sitting in their student section?
First home game as a student in 03, we were playing Georgia.
UGA student walks through the student section, gets nachos dumped on his head. Cops escort him out...but he asked for it.
You asked for mistreatment as well putting yourself in that situation.
Nicest and most gracious fans I've ever witnessed were in Morgantown.

Student sections are just different animals. Just look at "Neck".
Most fans of other schools claim that their trip to BR is hospitable. Getting "suck that tiger dick" screamed at in your face by a drunk student may change someone opinion of LSU fans in a heartbeat. But like you said, we don't claim to be the nicest.

:omg:
We Tiger Baited someone? We do that to every visiting fan, especially a visiting fan from an SEC school. Doesn't make our fan base to be 100% a-holes. Most of the ones I've seen get tiger baited take it with a smile and then they're welcomed to food and drink.
You're reading more into this.

Aggies were fun. Every conversation had "SEC" in it. We are sec this.. UT is not SEC.. SEC wants us.. SEC..
Calling them out on class is the funniest thing ever.

I don't get your point, because that was exactly what I was trying to say. An opposing fan was in our student section and the worst thing that happened was she got tiger baited. I agree, not malicious or vicious or anything bad.

The OP post was about as far from our experience as possible. From the time we got out of our car to the time we left, we were treated very well. Probably the best that we've ever been treated by opposing fans.
On friday afternoon, after campus reopened we went out ot the stadium and met several students, alumni, and cadets. All were great. From being informative, to talking about Aggie traditions. We later went out to North Gate and again were treated extremely well. The restuarant where we ate set us up a special table on the patio, since we didn't mind dining outside, because they were on a 2 hour wait.
On game day, with it being an early game, we went to watch the band and cadets march in. Just standing around we were invited in to tailgates and exchanged several phone numbers for next year in Baton Rouge.
Post game, even in defeat, they handled it well. There fans still associated with us in the bars and one fellow even had his girlfriend bring there pickup truck to the bar and give us a ride back to the hotel, so we didn't have to call a cab. Our hotel staff was friendly and accomadating. All in all it was a great trip.
Some of you may say we just got lucky, but I assure you we draw attention. I travel with the "sign man". for those of you who pass behind the PMAC every gameday you know who I am talking about. A different sign on a bed sheet every week.
So maybe you found the few bad ones like every campus has, including LSU, or maybe you were just looking to have a bad time. I'm not sure, but I do know we had a blast.

Tiger baiting happens at every game, some more than others. You're making way more out of it than it is.
