Thanks. I've been struggling to get good video with my new gopro. A lot of the flights happen where it's tough to see anyway, and we've had crappy weather for the past month. Between that, and me mismanaging his weight, I haven't had much opportunity to get good video. This is the best I've done so far.

It takes some practice. I weigh him every day. I've learned the weight where he's hungry enough to hunt hard and follow well but not so hungry that he's weak. And I know about how much food it takes for him to be at that weight again the next time I'm planning to hunt.

We had our annual state meet this past weekend. I took my gopro and got a little video. We had more spectators than people with birds, but it was fun anyway. Mash For A Video With Hawks Chasing Squirrels (and one bunny)

Sometimes they do, if they're not used to it. Mine didn't like the crowd. In the video, there's a couple of scenes where you see gray squirrels bailing out of the top of the tree. The hawk (mine) is right behind them, but in both cases he pulls up before he hits the ground. If you'll notice, there are people standing all around where the squirrel landed. Under normal circumstances where it's just me and him and maybe my daughter, he would have done his best to pound those squirrels into dust as they hit the ground.

Bumping this thread back to the top in an effort to not have two 8 page threads about the same thing. Some photos of hunts since the last update here: These are all from the past couple of weeks. The last one is from today. We had 70+ degree weather and 20+ mph winds which make for tough hawking. But we kept after until he finally snagged a dumb one that ran downwind.

For whoever mentioned putting a camera on my hawk: LINK This isn't mine, but it's one of the most well-done videos I've seen, especially of the bird's eye view videos.
