My friends and I are going hiking on the Panther Creek trail near the Tallulah Gorge state park in north Georgia tomorrow for the day and night. I doubt many have ventured to those parts, but if so, reviews would be appreciated.

Since we won't be there very long, I can't imagine needing to pack very heavy. With that being said, I haven't been camping in about four years and was looking for the OB advice on essentials that I may be forgetting.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated, as well as moronic comments.

Take extra socks and underwear. You can put dirty clothes back on but a fresh pair of undies and socks will make you feel like a new man.

If you hear banjos playing, fricking run.

Cool nights this week, should be great camping and hiking weather. Very nice area, watch your speed going and leaving, always a radar in that area.

This will probably be the best advice given in this thread.

Thanks to everyone

If you think you have enough beer, go buy more.

I've done that trail several times. It's an easy trail. We camped at the falls.

You need a tent that you can carry on your backpack and some hiking boots. I always packed a small stove and some mountain house meals.

Get you a Nalgene bottle and a water purifier or tablets to sterilize the water. Have fun man, that's a cool trail.

Are you camping on the trail or camping somewhere else and just hiking the trail?

You camping at the state park or roughing it along the trail?

What you need differs on the situation.
