Yep. Totally wasted character imo.

I mean we're all of three episodes into this season after he finished last season by being busted for killing his partner (then shooting a fed on the way out the door).

He then had that great scene in the flower shop with Dean O'Banion that I'm guessing will be who he turns to for a job.

It's a slow build but he's far from a waste.

ETA: You also don't go from crazy religious zealot Fed to Gangster bruiser in a few episodes either.

Can't remember exactly, but Eli took the fall for something and got two years. Election fraud, maybe? I really can't recall right now... Honestly, I think most of Eli's problem is that he failed miserably when he tried stepping out and now he's just a runt, while Nucky is still pulling in million a year and banging Broadway tail.

Eli isn't pissed at Nucky, as far as I know.

Eli didn't think he was getting enough respect from Nucky last season, so he joined the Commodore and Jimmy.
When he tried to come back, Nucky rebuffed him.
So Eli freaked and tried to have Nucky killed.
Eventually, Nucky won the war; and he told Eli that he'd have to go down for killing Margaret's ex-husband, I believe.
2 year sentence, 1 year served.
So, Eli helped Nucky kill Jimmy, then took the rap for killing Hans Schroder.

At this point, Nucky and Eli should be square; but I imagine there's still some bad blood there.
Although, the way Owen continues to pull Eli back into the fold suggests to me that Nucky still wants him on the team.

yeah I didnt like him at first but he is a good character. I think he sticks around for a while, he seems pretty swift.

I just finished the episode. Gyp is definitely an interesting character. I think the conversation with Jimmy's mother held some clues as to where his story will go. He is very fond of her and she tells him that Eli tried to kill Nucky. He then asks, "If you lose your own flesh and blood, what do you have?" She responds, "You don't have anything." Because of Nucky, she no longer has her son(the only flesh and blood she's ever cared about) and may turn to helping Gyp.

Gyp may also try to pry Eli into helping him get rid of Nucky. They make a point of the two meeting at the end of this episode and thus Gyp putting a face to the brother that tried to kill Nucky. They showed in the first episode that Eli's relationship with his family, espcially his son, is strained after returning home from jail. Eli was always big on spening time with his son but now that he's back, his son looks down on him. Eli could blame Nucky for forcing him to serve time and in the end losing his relationship with his family.

yeah he definitely wants to chase jimmys mom, which I cant blame him. they also showed luciana bitching at her about spending money on the whorehouse, and if I remember right gyp kinda talked to her about that. I definitely see them teaming up.

I just watched it last night and I have a few questions (I couldn't find the answer in the previpu 4 pages)

1. What did "bone for tuna" mean?

2. What was the significance of the bacon?

over the phone nucky must have told owen to tell gyp "buona fortuna" (italian for good luck) but owen (being a mick) wrote down the phonetic spelling of it: "bone for tuna" and that plus the idea that nucky thought gyp needed luck pissed gyp off

a reference to how nucky used to make jimmy bacon and also foreshadowing to the chick making him bacon in the end

Nucky mispronouncing Bonne Fortuna (sp?).

"good luck". Gyp told that to Nucky over dinner.

Eta: he's right. Probably Owen's bad.

Thanks.

And great episode. However, Nucky needs to stop thinking with his dick and getting caught up with these terrible chicks.

Just watched. Gyp is probably my favorite character right now. The shite that sets him off is amazing. I feel like I'm sort of watching an angered italian Larry David.

He's definitely pissed at Nucky.

First he sends Mickey to pick him up and insults the hell out of him over it. Then he finds out he has to start at the bottom of the operation. His son resents him over his prison time that Nucky forced him into.

Obviously we see it as he got what he was asking for by trying to have Nucky killed. And you could even say they should be squared up at this point. But they're not.
