Gatlinburg/ Pigeon Forge - cabin rec's/ things to do

I need some recommendations from you folks about cabins and things to do. I'm looking to make a trip in December sometime, most likely between the 1st and 2nd split. Whats there to do in the winter that the ladies would like? I'm hoping for a good quiet getaway for a few days, something pretty laid back.
I've started looking at cabins, but there are hundreds and narrowing them down is tough when they all look the same.
Thanks

Can't help you with the specifics. Don't know where my dad booked it exactly, but it was a neat little cabin on the side of a mountain with a great view. Went during the summer so we fished some in the creeks. You'll have a ball.

Stay away from majestic mountain rentals. They are horrible. Switched cabins on us last minute. We stayed away from gatlinberg. We spent most of the time in the state park.

I'd recommend checking out the cabins in the Townsend area. Just a few minutes from Cades Cove and it's away from all the touristy stuff. You're about 30 minute drive from Gatlingburg, too, there in Townsend, Tennessee. Very pretty area. Check out Smoky Mountain Knife Works there in Sevierville, Tenn. LINK You can spend hours and hours in there. I go about twice a year just to look at all the taxidermy mounts on the walls. Lots of music to hear there in that area if you're in to that sort of thing. Very interesting Titanic exhibit there in Pigeon Forge. Takes about two hours to go through the whole self guided tour. The aquarium there in downtown Gatlinburg is interesting. Kids love that place. If you enjoy hiking, there are lots and lots of trails to choose from. If you're in good shape, hike the trail up to Mt. LeConte lodge and spend the night. LINK Cherokee gambling casino is just across the Smoky Mountains in Cherokee, NC. LINK You'll surely enjoy a day trip hiking and photography there in Cades Cove, also. If you like pioneer type stuff, drive over to Norris, Tenn (easy to find) and spend a day at the Museum of Appalachia. LINK That place is huge and you have lots of settler cabins, tools, etc. to see. You can drive up to Ober Gatlingburg and go ice skating. I've got a close friend and banjo pickin buddy who is the main character at the Hatfields and McCoys Dinner Theatre there in Pigeon Forge. It's about a two hour show and you'll enjoy it! And it's also adjacent to the Titanic exhibit. There is a car show there in Pigeon Forge almost every weekend, too. I don't know for sure when Gatlinburg has their Christmas parade scheduled, but it's always at night and is fun to see. You can drive up to Bristol (about two hours) and take a guided tour of the NASCAR track. I could go on and on, but it's getting late and feather tick time for me.

Used to go every October. Townsend was pretty quiet even during the height of the season. Not sure what there is to do, I only brought a SO up twice and all we did was hike and bump uglies.

I'd stay away from Gatlinburg and PF as much as possible. Take a look at Tellico Park near the town of Murphy. Check out VRBO.com to find a cabin.
Gatlinburg and PF are tourist traps with enormous fat people eating every kind of junk food imaginable. If you're looking for peace, quiet and remoteness, try to venture out of the cities.

Go to Cades Cove. By far one of the best places I have ever been.
