looking for a side by side

I seem to remember this being discussed but i searched and didnt find much so i will ask for input. i have always had 4 wheelers and used them for utility and on the hunting lease but our current bike is getting up there in age and i would like to get something new. for my purposes i think a side by side will be more suitable. having no experience with them, i dont know what to look at or where i can get the best deal. i am in lafourche parish but willing to travel to find a good price. any and all input is appreciated.

I had a Polaris sportsman 550 that burned up in a fire while it was being serviced. I got insurance for it and went with a ranger 500 EFI. Only had it a couple of weeks now but I like it so far. It's a midsize and its a little bit bigger than a 4-wheeler, actually more longer than wider. Polaris says it will still fit in the back of a truck but won't on my Toyota tundra (short bed)
One of the main reasons I bought my 4 wheeler was the ranger at the time was just too big. This thing is a really good size. They come with an 800 motor but the 500 is fine for my needs (hunting, running around in the neighborhood, yard work, etc).

ok this is gonna sound naive but my concern with going with a 500 and not an 800 is that we currently have an old kawasaki prairie 400 and it does a pretty good job for what we need it for....mainly utility around our yard, but occasionally it could use some more "umph." for example after the storm we had a downed hack berry tree and we cut it into large sections and drug them away and it struggled at times. will the added weight of the side by side and the fact that its only a 500 really inhibit its ability to tow/pull? we live on 35 acres of cane fields and some wooded area and will occasionally tow some pretty heavy loads on a fairly heavy trailer. i am just have a debate in my mind about what size is truly sufficient.

the Polaris 500 has 10 * more power than the Kawasaki mules.
the Ranger in the 500 will surprise you. there is no comparison between it and the mule. FWIW I work on them for living.

Pulled an 16' dual axle trailer loaded with a 12' box stand through some pretty bad mud holes

do you think that based on their tow ratings and their actual real world capabilities within a safe range of operation that the 800 is overkill? do you think there will be more or less long term issues with the 500 from your experience. i know this is hard to say but i am just asking what YOU would recommend based on ur experiences.

Take a look at the Kubota RTV's as well. They are suited more to work than play but very capable.I have had mine for 3 yrs with ZERO problems.

The diesel mules are pretty damn strong. They're just slow.
My boss has a can-am 800 sxs thingy. That is one bad sonuvabitch.
