Goodell set Ginsburg's arse up. Now Greg Williams is saying he was "bullied" into signing an affidavit, when he had already given a statement to the NFL? Williams is a clown and a snitch.

Benson's silence through all this leads me to believe he's agreed to offer up his organization to the league as a sacrificial lamb for the impending class action lawsuits. However, Goodell has butchered the entire task. At some point, I can't help but think the owners get together and fire Goodell to make him the sacrificial lamb to save face for the NFL. This is getting out of hand and i don't see how Vilma could lose if this gets pushed through Federal Court.

Save what face? Most fans either don't care or are against the Saints on this one. Some reporters may question how hard Goodell has been on the players but I haven't seen much Free Sean Payton sentiment at all in the media. It's mostly that the players shouldn't be punished as much as the coaches, not that the coaches/FO are innocent. They may think the punishments are too harsh, but they don't think the league is wrong.

Vilma has to prove that Goodell intended to lie. Goodell is basing his claims on the claims of coaches at the meeting in question, so he's not lying, he's repeating evidence he believes to be true. Vilma won't win a thing unless he finds smoking gun evidence that Goodell fabricated it all and he won't find that because most people think if it's fabricated that Cerullo was the one that made it up because he was disgruntled, not because the NFL asked him to. I hate to keep being the bearer of bad news in these threads, but the outcome to this has been decided before it began.

Because, in my mind, I am extrapolating to the future (maybe in a year after the dust settles with all that's going on)...I see this Saints thing picking up steam in the media and getting worse. The rent a ref thing could get worse by seasons end...throw in what could ensue with the class action lawsuits, who knows. You are the voice of reason here, and i am reaching but it's possible. And why can't Vilma continue his defamation lawsuit? Make them show proof and if he wins, file for damages. NFL still claims he did something wrong, and i say make them freaking prove it. FYI, you seem pretty knowledgeable so, very classy of you to not condescend my post as there were many holes.

Yeah but you are assuming that Goodell has courtroom quality evidence to support his claims. Big difference.

How is it not courtroom quality evidence? 2 of Vilma's direct supervisors/superiors are prepared to testify against him.

LINK 1- Yes 2- Yes 3- No If it didn't happen then Vilma would have a case against GW and Cerullo, but Goodell is in the clear here. The evidence is sufficiently credible to get Goodell off the hook for defamation.

I think the lamb here will be Williams. He can't admit purgery and Goodell can claim he just believed what he was told. I want to know how Cerullo's statement contradicts Williams' and whether that points toward one or the other being false.

It is the goal for every defense to knock the other's team qb out of the game!!!!!!!! What is the freaking big deal here? Fine the Saints for an illegal bonus system. Nothing more to see here.

I hate to tell you but Vilma doesn't have to prove anything. Statements made by two people is not enough to justify going in a public forum and defaming the character of an individual. Goodell needs hard evidence for him to have the right to say what he has said and if he doesn't produce evidence that justifies his claims in court well then he broke the law. All Vilma has to do is say in court " Mr. Goodell show me what your working with" and GD has to produce evidence. Goodell can say that his interpretation justified him to make his statements but that doesn't matter it all comes down to the interpretation of the jury. And what's been produced so far, vilmas attorney will have no problem showing the gigantic holes in the evidence GD has aquired

That would have been the common sense approach. Goodell doesn't work that way, apparently.

Supposedly Cerullo's version is Vilma offered the bounty and then gave the money to Williams. Williams said Vilma did it and denied having anything to do with any bounties. So if anything the contradiction looks like Williams lying about his involvement, not Vilma's involvement. In the Cerullo thread Chad said that the Cerullo version says the bounty was for Warner and carried over to Favre. Chad makes a good point as to why would the bounty carry over when Warner got knocked out of the game?

i do remember how the players encouraged each other to keep it in the pot and not cash out each week to let the pot grow.

Two bad in the case of GW, since he is only suspended indefinitely , he wants his suspension to end as soon as possible so he will comply with whatever his boss wants.Thats a conflict of interest and his statement and testimony won't hold weight in court

its just hilarious that after a "3 year investigation" with "50,000+ pages of evidence" the NFL only produced one signed declaration...from 3 days ago...and which contradicts previously reported information really Goodell? really?

Vilma's defamation suit isn't about whether or not he actually put out a bounty or not, it's about whether Goodell had reason to believe he did. Criminal cases regularly use conflicted witnesses that sell out there colleagues for lesser sentences. Their testimony isn't thrown out because it's conflicted, it's often critical to making the case.
