We got stuffed twice in a row in the red zone last night (last year we had 1 missed red zone opportunity until Mett took 4 knees at Ole Miss). Our receivers did not get open last night for three straight red zone possessions, and we were forced into 2 field goal attempts and a pick. It's embarrassing to have to give up against North Texas on 3rd and 11 and run a wide receiver screen to settle for a field goal instead of taking a shot at the end zone.

Agreed. Didn't really understand why the play calling was so conservative against UNT.

What you are saying is true. We really need to address the receiver position in recruiting. We do not have anyone with great individual talent.

That screen was on the third red zone trip after missing a field goal and throwing the pick. I guess Les wanted to make sure we got points.

I detect sarcasm. At least I hope I do.

b/c we won 41-14 with it.

More elaborate routes take time, and they were brining more than we had blocking.

Wouldn't go that far. We are lacking some size and deep speed, but Landry has the best hands we've seen in a long time at LSU.

I was kind of hoping to see Armand Williams in the RZ.

We need the 6'4, 6'5 guys, IMO. I thought we'd be fine with the smaller, athletic types, but its not the way we are successful.

So it's going to be different against Washington?

Call me skeptical

I'd expect that next week LSU is going to come out and establish the run first. Les is going to want to pound on the PAC 12 softies and then use the play action as the game moves along.

On another note, the best pass play we had actually led to a punt. After the Mett intentional grounding call, Mett completed a deep square in for about 20 yards. Unfortunately, it was 3rd and 25ish. But that play looked pretty sharp.

not shocking....they are all 6'0 tall and around the same weight. there is no guy that we can through the fade to or possession type slants over the middle. our receivers are talented, but the top 4 guys pretty much do the same thing.

I'm not all doom & gloom like a lot of people around here and saw a lot of positives last night. People have been waiting for the secret playbook for years and I don't expect to see the play calling change drastically any time soon. Our strength is going to be our running game and Miles hates Ints. I expect to see a lot of pounding this year, even with an upgraded QB.

Kind of funny to say they need separation- camera angle didn't really allow me to opine on that

We dont have any tall and fast receivers to stretch the field. Our offensive coaching staff have no clue how to develop a QB or passing game. Stud and Les didn't let Mett look down the field after taking the shots he took early. We tried to throw down field for several years but to do that you need to block. Play action bombs will work when everyone is committed to stoping the run.

it's not all about height, folks. Early was probably better at going up and snagging a ball thrown high than was Buster, and as good as Bowe. and he was 5'11ish, giving away a few inches to them. and Odell can get off the ground. ya gotta actually call that play though.
