I think at the very least Jon's "death" is a plot device to get him out of his vows with the Night's Watch in the most honorable way possible.

That's what I'm thinking too. Plus Jon is my favorite character and the underdog that I enjoy rooting for.

Jon's death is a plot device to get him with the other Stark ghost's in the crypts of Winterfell perhaps to learn about his origins. He can leave the Wall anytime he wants per Stannis. The Wall and the Watch in general is on the brink of extinction. Assuming this is the big and final battle with the Others, win or lose the Watch is going to be done.

100% agreement on Jon's death being a way to get him out of the NW. As for the Starks:
Jon is a Targ, so he'll rule the Kingdom
Bran will remain in the North
Sansa will remain married to Tyrion and will rule Casterly Rock
Rickon will be Lord of Winterfell
Arya...??? I hope she doesn't die, but she will definitely not become domesticated enough to return to any court.

Guys like Jon, Sam, and some of the others take their vow pretty seriously. Jon wasn't going to disregard that vow for a self-anointed king even if he desired to be at Winterfell. The vow is a fairly big deal in Jon's arc.
And I don't think the Night's Watch ends up extinct. I think Jon's resurrection ends up making them even stronger when it's said and done.

My point here was there would be nothing left to "watch" for if the White Walkers are defeated and they are letting Wildlings freely into the realm.

Don't really buy that one. If he was going to take the easy way out with Stannis, he would have done so. He needs an honorable way out. PLUS, if he took the offer from Stannis, he would become a Stark, which would be weird from the standpoint of the story if Martin then had to make him a Targ. This way, he goes from dreaming of not being a bastard to instead being a prince. As for the revelations about his past, I think those come from Bran.

This I agree with. The Wall coming down would be dramatic, but also symbolic for the end of the story with ALL of Westeros, including the North, united. This also works if Jon, who is sympathetic to the wildlings and Dany, who is all about freedom, rule Westeros.

We're making the assumption that The Wall is the only place they can protect the "realms of men".
IMO you can interpret "I'm the watcher on the walls" as more than just "The Wall".
quote:
"Night gathers, and now my watch begins. It shall not end until my death. I shall take no wife, hold no lands, father no children. I shall wear no crowns and win no glory. I shall live and die at my post. I am the sword in the darkness. I am the watcher on the walls. I am the shield that guards the realms of men. I pledge my life and honor to the Night's Watch, for this night and all the nights to come

I think Tyrion will find either death or his true love, Tysha.

You forget who the writer is.

I think Bloodraven is using Bran to bring down the wall.
Brandon the builder/ Brandon the destroyer connection and i never bought the horn being able to take down the wall just seemed silly.

Speaking of the horns in ASOIAF:
-Mance allegedly has the Horn of Winter
-Euron Crow's Eye allegedly has a horn that can control dragons
-Doesn't Sam have the real horn of winter now too?
So which horns do y'all think are real?

Moqorro(?) seemed to think Euron's horn was real. But who knows his motivation.

Made one slight change to Bran. I wish there was a place for Arya, but I just don't see it. I don't think there is anywhere that can offer her peace from what she has gone through and the path she has taken.

Didn't the guy who blew the horn at the Kingsmoot die from it?
Euron also claims to have been to Asshai and walked the smoking remains of Valyria. I think it's real but maybe only a Targ can blow it??

I know this is a stretch but I'm really thinking the horn will bind dragons to the bloodline and not the individual. It fits with the dragons' love for Targ's as well as Euron's willingness to hand the horn over to Vic.

No way Arya becomes Lady of Storm's End. Arya's arc is completely built on tragedy and is always leading to more.
