what power? the other lords dont even want him there. if he attempted to summon an army now they would just laugh at him/take his title

never been on reddit, so I'll take your word for it. I know, I can't prove it.

Yet, he's still manipulated the situation to where he'll continue to be regent.
He wouldn't summon an army now, he's biding his time for whatever his plan is, presumably at least marrying off Sansa and then who knows.

that was my point. he may BECOME one of the most powerful people in Westeros (i think he will). but right now he doesn't have any power really, he barely got a 1 year lease as lord protector of the vale.

Gotcha. Yeah I suppose its more artificial power.
Posted on 8/3/13 at 10:09 pm to BlackleafBaller
Artificial power, sure, but it'll definitely come in handy when the time is right.
With that being said, I don't see Littlefinger living to the end of the series.

Ok, just flew in from L.A. and had some time on the flight for some rereads, focusing on the North and Jon.
I'm definitely down with the GNC theory, but a lot of people went off on a tangent about them rallying around Jon. Manderly sending Davos to Skagos to get Rickon seemed pretty cut and dry to me. All of the rest of it I think is dead on. The North is about to wreck shite and it's going to be a bad time to be a Frey or a Bolton. Also doubt that Martin just happened to put Rickon in Skagos for the heck of it. I'm thinking that the Skagosi turn out to be good allies for the North and not the savages they're made out to be, much like the wildlings. They'll play a part.
Mel's chapter was even more interesting on the reread. Even more sure now that she and Jon planned his "death". She knew exactly what was coming, and there have been far too many references to glamors, ressurections, etc. This chapter was as much about showing that Jon was ready to listen to Melisandre and make use of her powers as anything.
Yes, I think that there was some Jojen in that Weirwood seed paste that Bran ate.
Another key thing that Brynden told Bran. He mentions that in the days of the first men, the ravens actually talked instead of having written messages strapped to their legs. I think Bran becomes Jon's eyes and ears and communicates with him through the ravens, which Martin mentions in virtually every Jon POV chapter. But, instead of saying "Snow" or "Corn", they say "Hey, Jon! Guess what? You're AA! Your mother was Lyanna Stark and your father was Rhaegar Targaryan, which means that you aren't actually my brother, just my cousin. Oh, you're also the rightful king. Please give this bird some corn, that shite's hard to come by up in this cave and we have a lot of ravens."

I think at the very least Mormont's crow may be someone. Not sure who and it's a stretch at best. But just given the comments it makes it makes me think someone may have warged into it on a consistent basis.

There is absolutely nothing in ADWD that makes it seem like Jon faked his death, he was clearly completely surprised by the betrayal. Now Mel might have known it was coming and be on the spot to bring him back, but that' a whole different ball of wax.

Yeah, pretty sure Bran will reveal quite a bit to folks (otherwise his storyline is completely pointless), and wouldn't surprise me if he reveals Jon's heritage in the end. I think his first reveal will be saving Theon from being killed by revealing to Stannis and the northerners that he and Rickon are both alive, and that the bastard is the one that sacked Winterfell.

I'm really looking forward to the Freys & Boltons getting what they deserve.
There's going to be a Frey wedding in book 6 right? Should be fun .

Love how some posters continue to underestimate Littlefinger and think he won't get his army. This quote by Tyrion about Littlefinger will be what happens.
quote:
No one had ever thought to question the appointments, and why should they? Littlefinger was no threat to anyone. A clever, smiling, genial man, everyone's friend, always able to find whatever gold the king or his hand required, and yet of such undistinguished birth, one step from a hedge knight, he was not a man to fear. He had no banners to call, no army of retainers, no great stronghold, no holdings to speak of, no prospects of a great marriage.

Littlefinger basically has to die if there is to be any peace in the realm.

Daven?
Now that he is Warden of the West & top male Lannister, that can be accounted for, will he go thur with the wedding? At the seige of Riverrun he made it clear that he doesn't have any love/respect for the Freys.

That doesn't seem like a stretch at all.

Daven's wedding is going to be in Riverrun. Tom O'Sevenstrings is spying for the BWB and was lined up in the yard with all of the Frey household. You have to think that the wedding might end up being a blood bath with possibly BWB and maybe Blackfish coming in to wreck shite.

right. I liked the GNC save for the Jon stuff, they kind of stretched that.
