updating my List of Mythical/Magical Creatures
Aurochs - Large relatives of the bull. They are frequently used as a symbol of size, strength, and stupidity. An aurochs was used as a mount by the mythical Clarence Crabb as a display of his prowess.
Basilisks - Venomous creatures that infest the jungles of Yi Ti.
Bloodflies - Found in the east, they are bee-sized bloodsuckers.
Centaurs - Are believed in, existing in myths and legend
Direwolves - Relatives of the wolf, but unlike their real-world equivalent, they are much larger and stronger than regular wolves. The are capable of reaching the size of a pony when fully grown. They are almost never seen south of the Wall.
Dragons - Ferocious, magical creatures, dragons are not native to Westeros, but were brought to the continent by the Targaryens. They died out over one hundred years ago, and are thought to be extinct by the people of Westeros.

Elk - Not just any elk, giant tasty elk ridden by a dead guy
Firewyrms - Dragon-like creatures.
Giants - big
Ice Spiders - said to be large enough to be ridden by the Others in the land of Always Winter
Krakens - Huge squids said to be able to pull down whaling ships. They are largely considered a myth.
Lizard-lions - Massive, swamp-dwelling reptiles found in the Neck, these creatures are most likely large crocodilians.
Mammoths - Inhabit the far north. They are used as mounts by Giants.
Manticores - Small poisonous creatures from the islands of the Jade Sea, its sting is fatal to humans.
Ravens - Physically similar to common ravens of Earth, ravens in Westeros are used to carry messages between castles. The maester of each castle usually tends to its stock of ravens. Maesters raise a breed of large, white ravens at the Citadel that are said to be more intelligent. Ravens sometimes imitate human speech like parrots.
Shadowcats - Large predatory cats with black fur and white stripes who seem to be native to mountainous regions. Their pelts are prized.
Sphinxes - Mythical creatures, with the body of an animal and the head of a human.
Unicorns - Large goat-like animals, with a long single horn on its head. Believed to live on Skagos.
Warrior Trees (think Huorns from LOTR) - From The Wayward Bride chapter - Asha at Deepwood Motte - "She thought back to a tale she had heard as a child, about the children of the forest and their battles with the First Men, when the greenseers turned the trees to warriors."
Wyverns - A wyvern is a legendary winged creature with a dragon's head, reptilian body, two legs (sometimes none), and a barbed tail.
Zorses - Black and white-striped horses, most likely similar to zebras, brought over and used as mounts by some foreigners in Westeros.

Are all these actually present in ASOIAF? I know I read somewhere GRRM has a children story with an Ice Dragon, but I think its supposed to be a completely different world.

Well, they're all mentioned in asoiaf, but whether or not they exist is just speculation

Technically, the heirs to the Baratheon throne are:
Stannis
Aegon Targeryen
After that, the line of succession is dead. And I don’t think anyone is going to rally to a Lannister cousin.
Therefore, since we are pretty certain that Tommen dies, the next question would be:
Who is in the best position to take the Iron Throne and the power to hold it?
1. Cersei Lannister - She will not simply step aside and could now assemble all the might of House Lannister. I believe that this will actually happen in the next book and will be Cersei's downfall.
2. Aegon Targeryen – With his growing armies and soon-to-be alliance with Dorne, Aegon is in position to stroll right into Kings Landing as the rightful heir; especially if Dorne brokers a marriage.
3. Mace Tyrell – He has the might and, just as importantly, he has all the key players in position around Kings Landing. He might also get House Lannister’s support if he can get Cersei out of the way.

Since it's always interested me (i have a weakness for overgrown stone ruins and water), here's my summation of The Sorrows.

Tyrion's journey
Originally named Chroyane or the Festival City, it contains what was once a huge palace said to be ten times the size of the Red Keep and a hundred times more beautiful where people from all over would come to be married called the Palace of Love. Now it lies a desolate ruin shrouded in fog and is called the Palace of Sorrow. Vines, moss and tumbled stone covers much of the once opulent palace and it's broken statues.
Almost the entire area is concealed in a thick fog that is tied to an ancient legend.
The city was once ruled by Prince Garin called Garin the Great because he assembled an army of 250,000 men to fight back a vastly more powerful invading army of the Valarians and Volantenes. He could not defeat them but he did give them pause. (From Westeros.org) The men of Volantis and Valyria hung Garin in a golden cage and mocked him as he called upon Mother Rhoyne to destroy them. That very night the waters rose and drowned the invaders of Chroyane. From that they, the spirits of the fallen conquerors remained beneath the waters, and their breath rises from the murk to make the fogs that infest the ruined city". This fog makes men's voices echo. This comes up later.
Greyscale and the mysterious fog are known as Garin's Curse.
Some believe that Garin rose from his watery grave and became the Shrouded Lord. Some, like Duck, think the Shrouded Lord was a statue at first, and a grey woman from the fog kissed life to it with lips as cold as ice. Now the Shrouded Lord is believed by many to be a corsair from the Basilisk Isles.
The area is inhabited by people who have contracted the greyscale that poisons these waters. It is basically a leper colony. They are known as "Stone Men" for the grey cracked dead flesh that typifies this deadly disease and the lifeless way they shuffle around in the mist. They are barely human anymore. Volantis sends food to the area three times a year to feed the stricken people.
These men attacked Tyrion and the not-so-mysterious crew of the Shy Maid near the Bridge of Dreams after the Shy Maid seemed to flow back upstream after passing the area once or maybe they floated around the island causing them to pass it again. Tyrion did seem to think the buildings looked oddly familiar just prior to the attack at the "second bridge" leading me to think there is some magic at work here. There is something strange about the attack at this bridge. After they passed it the first time, the crew seemed to relax a little. This is when Tyrion revealed that he suspected Young Griff of being Prince Aegon. The pole boat then gets attacked from the bridge and the water by stone men. Jon Connington and Tyrion go overboard, only JonCon gets greyscale. This is a referenced often in the Tyrion = Targ theories. Did Garin/The Shrouded Lord only bewitch the boat/bridge because he overheard Tyrion's suspicions about Aegon through the fog echos?
In any case, it's a pretty cool chapter.

some, like stone dragons or "dragons from stone", are expected to appear due to prophecies
the giant ice spiders are mentioned in stories (not prophecies) by at least two different people and i fully expect them to be shown in the book

Leaving this here for Belle. You had made a sig pic of this for me a long time ago. Made Ghost's eyes red and had Ice & Fire spread out across the top. (Maybe you could throw Mr. Wayne somewhere?)
