i disagree unless you dont know what our flag is
The flag is not on every house and everything like it is in texas and sc.

Every house? Very rarely do I see the Texas flag being flown at a house. And, I've lived here for 30 years.

Texans love their flag, but since this was started with Maryland teams slapping it on their unis, I will say that Texas doesn't quite go that extra mile.
The Houston Texans have a version of the flag I suppose...but otherwise? Rockets? Cowboys? Spurs? Mavs? Stars? Astros?
The Rangers have a waving flag as an alternate logo. But that's all I got.
And yeah...Colorado has a cool flag.

Virginia > Maryland
Really depends on what you like...I assume you're speaking of NOVA...
PG county sucks if you're white...since it is damn near entirely black...
You like NOVA (besides Alexandria) if you're into more "Cookie Cutter" suburbs and living in a very multi-cultural element (Houston people think Sugar Land)
MD is actually more like the South, being mainly black and white, older neighborhoods with less transients...

I'll agree with NOVA being cookie cutter, but I live in DC proper, which is much better than either the MD or VA suburbs in this area.
Though there are some terrible areas of Virginia, I was really referring to the rest of the state being superior to MD. The Shenandoah Valley, Blue Ridge Mountains and Central VA are all beautiful, even if slightly Deliverance-esque in some parts. Also, Charlottesville is one of the best college towns in the country and UVA is so much better than UMD in every way that this disparity overcomes any deficiencies the state of VA may have in comparison to MD.

I agree. I prolly can go days or weeks at a time without seeing our state flag. You would see the state flag, much, much more in Memphis and Richmond

I don't even consider that VA. That is DC

UVA is the most overrated school on the planet. Here's a little secret I'd like to tell every Hoo, because I know you don't know this: you are not a private school. UVA is the land of the pod people. Every friend I had who went to UVA started out as a unique individual and came back after four years as a khaki wearing robot who was only capable of the Donald Sutherland scream at the end of the film. It's like a training ground for uninteresting douchebags.
UVA is like Ole Miss only without the Grove and slightly less racism.
Western Maryland is in Appalachia as well. It is really pretty out by Cumberland and Frederick.

I have a dozen or so friends that went to either UVA and/or Darden and they are some of the most interesting, open minded people I know
but andecdotes aside, UVA is still considered a public Ivy. Ole Miss.....not so much

BTW - according to the book The Public Ivies: America's Flagship Public Universities, which is the derivation of the term... Maryland is also a public Ivy. It's just that UMCP doesn't have a stick up their butt about it (so are Florida and Georgia, BTW).

No one forgets that UVA is public, but more importantly it is the best public university in the East and top 2 or 3 in the country. Comparing it to Ole Miss academically is laughable. Comparing it to Ole Miss based on how preppy, southern and unoriginal the student body is has slightly more validity, but it has a much more diverse and intellectually gifted population than Ole Miss could ever hope to have. It's like comparing Louis Brandeis to Kige. Both may be from Kentucky, but only one can spell cat without being spotted the c and the t.
I will concede that Western Maryland is pretty as well. Cumberland is especially nice.

to be fair, my maryland friends are all awesome too and I love them.
But as sports fans go, UVA>>>> Maryland. If I have to hear how awesome Greivis Vasquez is one more time, I'm going to punch one of them

UMD is a good state school, especially its honors program. But if I may offer another academic analogy, Harvard : Tulane :: UVA : UMD.

This thread has restored my faith in the MSB.
