there are a bunch of houses right at the Bayou Corne landing....they are about a half mile from the sinkhole...I'm sure those are the houses they are evacuating....some real nice places there

I don't understand how they can't figure out what's causing the gas bubbles.

Shouldn't they be able to determine if that's the cause?

when I worked for Dow, we'd pump our liquid ethylene in domes there for storage ....

I don't know how to determine if they're caving in

I'm not real familiar with Louisiana's problems but it seems to me like stuff sinking in the ground is becoming more common there.

What's up with this? Bad practices by industries/drilling? Ocean levels rising every year along with the land already being swampy and low?

Or has this stuff always kind of happened?

Tx Brine Company will be paying for any damages that occur. Wonder why they got out in 2011

re: Homes being evacuated in Assumption Parish (sink hole)

salt dome is one mile wide by 3 miles long. It has 51 caverns, 19 of which are hydrocarbon. The remainder are brine. the volume / day from 3 of those brine wells is fairly substantial. I have been going down there regularly since the incident started. Plot just thickened. I was scheduled to be down there all day Sunday and now waiting on my phone to ring any minute w/ new orders bc of recent news

ETA: beau we my have met at some point if you have been working the incident as well

LINK to WBRZ video.

There was also a distinct smell of "diesel", or some other hydrocarbon, above the site.

re: Homes being evacuated in Assumption Parish (sink hole)

Intersection of LA Hwy 69 and LA Hwy 70 is in the top center of photo. Bayou Corne community is in upper left; now being evacuated.

Location of the sinkhole is just above the word "Site" in the left center. (The leaking well is actually located below the word "Water" and is marked by the dark green pin.

Pierre Part is off the picture to the lower left by several miles. Belle Rose is off the picture to the upper left by several miles.
Hope this helps.
