Shep is a "slot" receiver, not a true wide out. In a 4 receiver set, he's there. Think of a much faster, much lighter, D'Lo Peterson..

Are you comparing shep to a converted TE??

Uh, Shep's got a ridiculous amount of talent...

Shepard is a very talented ATHLETE but not a very talented WR. What has Shep shown anyone at WR the last 3 years that shows he is a very talented RECEIVER (as in running routes, catching passes, getting separation, etc...)? I haven't seen it. He is electrifying once the ball is in his hands, but the problem has been getting it to him and him catching it. In all honesty his best role was like Trindon Holliday in a trickeration/multi-role type of guy. Shepard had his most impact when we got the ball into his hands as quickly as possible and put him in space. In 2009 and 2010 we would line him up at WR, bring him in the backfield in motion and hand the ball off to him in a few different ways and he was VERY effective in slicing up defenses for big gains more times than not. Maybe that was a Crowton element and not a Miles/Kragthorpe/Stud element...but that was the best way to use him.

OBJ, Landry, Shep and Wright are the top 4.
I don't care that we don't have a true big body RR type receiver on this team. That's 4 DAMN strong receivers. Combine their talent with our RBs and CP at tight end AND Mett in the backfield...

I'm aroused.

Wright is actually that big body type. He might not be 6'4, but he's 6'2 and physical.

Percy Harvin says your statement is total bullshite. Shep with the ball in his hands is just as dynamic as Harvin was for UF in college. His game has translated well to the pros.

Shep should be used in a Harvin role. Stick him in as a slot receiver running tons of crossing and out routes. line him up in the backfield to catch swing passes and run zone read plays with the qb. He could easily be used as a wildcat qb.

No, he really isn't. But he has come a long long way into developing into a pretty good WR.

I agree that this is what he is best at...but when you look at a play like this one...what did he really do that was special? He made one cut and ran fast. We've got at least 10 other guys on the team that could have run that play and gotten the same result.

I don't see how you think this is completely false...when shep gets the ball in his hand with a little wiggle room he's a threat to break off a big play. The problem is we haven't gotten him in those positions enough. He's not going to catch balls 15 yards down the field and then make it happen, but he has the ability to turn 3 yards into 15 easily. The down field catches would have to come with time (and he has improved big time in that area).

Dude, I say he's not an every down receiver and you say it's total bullshite and then you say he's not going to catch the ball 15 yards downfield? Really? What do you think a WR does. Shep has a similar style as Harvin but he's no Percy Harvin. Shep is one of my favorite players on the team and I hope he lights it up but you must have forgotten him getting caught from behind by Mark Barron 2 yrs ago. Shep is explosive in his first few steps and can make people miss but he doesn't have a second gear like Harvin.

Really? There are about a dozen other players also on the team that if you give them a little wiggle room in space are a threat to break a big play. OBJ and Mathieu are much greater threats with a lot less wiggle room or space.

This isn't a big deal, Shep will get many touches this year.

This is ridiculous. Percy Harvin was the best player in college football, Russel Shepard isn't a top 30 player on LSUs roster.

Shep's gonna blow up this year. He's got no choice. I still believe in Shep. Get him the ball and he'll do the rest.
